New FPIN and Traffic Optimizer Demos

·        Fabric Performance Impact Notification with Red Hat Enterprise Linux: In this demo Brocade notifies the Emulex HBA and RHEL 8.3 MPIO driver of a link integrity issue in the SAN. This notification informs the MPIO driver to take a corrective action, to avoid application performance impact. The root cause of this issue is commonly referred to as having “sick but not dead links” in the SAN.

·        Brocade’s FOS 9.0 Traffic Optimizer Demo: With Traffic Optimizer, Brocade is proactively avoiding the most common congestion problems related to “speed mismatch” in the SAN today. Traffic Optimizer automatically classifies traffic flows into different performance groups based on port speed characteristics to avoid any potential congestion caused by resource contention. In this demo, we also leverage the SANnav Management Portal to investigate and visualize the environment's performance.

NEW WORLD RECORD with VMmark 3.1 Benchmark – Lenovo and Broadcom

There is a reason why enterprises use Fibre Channel for their virtualization solutions - FC is the fastest, most scalable storage network with proven reliability that continues to set world records for VMmark benchmarks.

Lenovo, using a variety of Broadcom technology including 32G Gen 6 SAN and HBAs, recently set a new VMmark 3 world record. The VMmark 3 benchmark measures the performance and scalability of virtualized platforms that simulate highly scalable and complex applications that are used in data centers.

You can find the details of the configuration and test results here, but the primary thing to remember is that Broadcom technology was critical in setting this world record including the G620 SAN switch that connected 32G Emulex FC technology on both the Lenovo server and storage array. Plus, the Broadcom Ethernet 10/25GbE adapter was used for LAN traffic.

Fibre Channel (FC) fabrics run on a highly streamlined protocol designed to offer persistently high performance. The FC protocol has built-in feedback mechanisms to avoid congestion and mitigate its impact if it occurs. There are many new technologies being developed to monitor and manage performance issues that may arise from time to time. Moreover, many of these tools are available across the ecosystem and are part of the FC standard.

We will be discussing this topic in our next live FCIA webcast “Introducing Fabric Notifications, From Awareness to Action” where Fibre Channel experts will cover exciting new innovations coming to the FC Fabric like:
• Fabric Performance Impact Notification (FPIN)
• How to ensure predictable performance
• QoS considerations
• Why FC remains the best transport protocol for storage environments
