NetApp Launches Brocade Gen 7 Products!

NetApp announced the availability of the Brocade Gen 7 X7 Director and G720 Switch on November 16, 2020. The Brocade Gen 7 products combine performance, analytics and advanced automation capabilities to enable an autonomous SAN with 64 Gb/s speed and 50% lower latency.

Приглашаем вас на ежегодный Клуб Brocade SAN 2020 – бесплатный семинар для технических специалистов заказчиков, партнеров и вендоров региона Россия и СНГ, занимающихся SAN-директорами Brocade, а также для сертифицированных инженеров Brocade SAN. Это приглашение можно пересылать всем заинтересованным. Для участия обязательно письменное подтверждение регистрации со стороны Brocade. Подробности – в приложении.
 
Особенности этого года – из-за ограничений на путешествия семинар проводится в форме вебинара, что дает нам уникальные возможности. Подписание NDA в этом году не требуется. Поучаствовать в Клубе могут все заказчики и партнеры с территории нашего региона из 12 стран. Ожидается много интересных докладчиков, которых иначе как удаленно собрать бы было маловероятно – 6 руководителей и экспертов Brocade и Emulex из США. Краткие биографии выступающих приведены в приложении. В связи с большим временным сдвигом между нашим регионом и США первый день мероприятия пройдет немного рано, а второй – немного поздно. Просьба отнестись с пониманием.

Fujitsu Technology Solutions launches Gen 7 Fibre Channel in EMEA

On December 1st, 2020, Fujitsu Technology Solutions (FTS) launched Brocade’s new Gen 7 Fibre Channel SAN platforms, including the X7 enterprise-class Director and mid-range G720 switch in the EMEA market. With the launch of Gen 7, FTS joins other OEMs to offer customers enhanced analytics and automation functionality, as well as increased performance and 50% lower latency. Together, these advanced capabilities combine to enable an autonomous SAN, a building block of the modern datacenter.

New VMware Technical Paper on the NVMe over Fibre Channel with vSphere 7.0 U1
This paper compares the performance of the legacy Fibre Channel Protocol (SCSI FCP) to FC-NVMe on vSphere 7.0 U1. The benchmark results show that FC-NVMe consistently outperforms SCSI FCP in virtualized environments, providing higher throughput and lower latency. These results provide a compelling case for customers to upgrade their existing environments to vSphere 7.0 and gain the benefits of NVMe-oF. 
Why is this document important?
·        FC-NVMe delivers higher transactions per second than SCSI FCP in every case
·        FC-NVMe outperforms SCSI FCP in all VMs tested: 1, 2, 4, and 8 VMs
·        It reinforces the idea that Fibre Channel is the protocol of choice for NVMe-oF
·        There are significant cost savings for the end customer as they could potentially run double the number of VMs on the same server running FC-NVME
·        VMware vSphere 7.0 U1 (update 1) Fibre Channel I/O stack was re-engineered to provide much higher performance over 7.0
·        Emulex engineering collaborated with VMware engineering to improve vSphere I/O stack.  As a result, Emulex’s solution is dramatically faster than QLogic. More specifically, Emulex’s performance lab discovered that Emulex read-write IOPS were over 4x faster than QLogic, and Emulex CPU effectiveness was exponentially better than QLogic.
·        VMware has not published anything on RoCE as of yet. The focus as of now is on FC-NVMe in the NVMe-oF space.
