Clarification of BSN End of Support (EOS) Policy

Brocade Storage Networking (BSN) Global Support has further clarified our End of Support (EOS) policy.

The BSN Technical Assistance Center (TAC) does not support or troubleshoot any device that is End of Support (EOS). For customers running a Multiple Device Fabric and TAC confirms that there is an EOS device in the fabric TAC will not troubleshoot the fabric until the device is removed from the Fabric. The connection to an EOS device is considered "a misapplication or improper maintenance" under Support Exclusions in the support terms and conditions.

"Support Exclusions. Brocade is not obligated to provide Support for Hardware that would otherwise be covered by a Support Plan if the Hardware has been damaged by misuse, accident, improper installation, misapplication, modification, unsuitable physical or operating environment, abnormal physical or electrical stress, improper maintenance (unless by Brocade), removal or alteration of switch or part identification labels, or failure caused by a product for which Brocade is not responsible.“

Here is a brief overview of the support flow:

Отдельно подчеркну важность предоставления реального адреса веб-сайта, ИНН и ОГРН компании – по этим данным отдел Экспортного Контроля Бродкома идентифицирует и проверяет вашу компанию. Если они не могут однозначно идентифицировать компанию, они просто не подтверждают регистрацию и вы не получаете доступ к порталу.

Storage Class Memory, what it is and why it matters

This is a really good article that is a great introduction to Storage Class Memory/Persistent Memory and the different memory technologies that can be candidates to be used for these use cases (of which Intel's Optane based on 3D XPoint is just one, albeit the most advanced and generally available at the moment). A highly recommended read.

June 27 10:00 am PT  //  1:00 pm ET

t’s time to get back to fundamentals on Fibre Channel. So, that’s exactly what we plan to do at our next FCIA live webcast on June 27, 2019 “Fibre Channel Zoning Basics.” In this webcast, we’re going to be talking about one of the most fundamental and crucial aspects of the protocol and what makes it so reliable, predictable and secure: Zoning.

We will start with the fundamentals and you’ll learn:
• What is Zoning
• Why you’d want to Zone
• Different types of Zoning
• Zoning Configuration Flow
• Consequences of Zoning
• Zoneset Activation Flow
• Zoning best practices for different types of applications
• Advances in Zoning

Register today to get this on your calendar for June 27th. Our FCIA experts will be on hand to answer your questions. We look forward to seeing you.

EOS firmware removal from the CSP !!!!

With the enforcement of the “Brocade Fabric OS Support Policy Notice” (See attached) we have removed all EOS (End of Suport) firmware from the CSP site and it is no longer available for download.  As a result of this change, there have been a lot of questions on how do we get customers that are running older versions of code get to the latest target path.

This policy is documented in the “Brocade Fabric OS Support Policy Notice” and was released in July 2018.

In this document, it clearly states:

To ensure ongoing support, quality, and responsiveness for Brocade products, customers who are using FOS versions older than those currently called out by this policy must upgrade to the supported FOS versions. To provide smooth operations and upgrade, customers and partners have 90 days from the general availability announcement of a new Major release from Brocade to migrate to a supported software release version.

What this means is that once we released FOS v8.1.x (for example), customers had 90 days to get onto FOS v7.4.2.x  After that 90 day period, they are no longer in compliance with our FOS Support Policy, and we are no longer obligated to provide a migration path via FOS releases posted on our site.

In addition, the doc states:

After the 90-day migration period, unless there is an impact to a hardware platform, the oldest supported FOS version is removed from maintenance support without explicit notice.

How do OEM Customers upgrade from older FOS to newer FOS, since they can no longer get to the required firmware on the download sites:
- OEM will open a case with Brocade TAC (Unit must have valid entitlement).
- TAC will work with the OEM to review the customer’s environment and provide an upgrade plan to the OEM for the customer.

NVMe over Fabrics.

RoCE, TCP etc.
C FC-NVMe все достаточно просто. Подключил в имеющуюся сеть FC - и работает параллельно с FC-SCSI. Не надо решать никаких сложных проблем и ограничиваться пределами стойки.
New Customer Case Study: Brocade improves IP Storage Data Mobility through On-Demand Replication
A new case study now available showing how the Brocade 7810 Extension switch helped Broadcom IT move data faster between locations and optimize network utilization without impacting other workflows.
Solution: Brocade 7810 Extension Switches for long-distance replication, Dell EMC Isilon NAS array, and Isilon SyncIQ replication software
Challenge:  Broadcom has grown in size over the years, especially with acquisitions of companies such as Brocade and CA Technologies. This has added more components, more staff and more data. Migration of data from legacy data centers to Broadcom corporate data centers and absorbing lots of hardware and software products makes data mobility an ongoing activity at Broadcom. This puts a lot of pressure on Broadcom’s IT organization to keep pace with growing requests to move data quickly and meet stringent SLAs. Any delay in the ability to access the data requested can slow down the team’s productivity, slow down design phases and have dire consequences to release schedules. Constraints to only move data during off-business hours or weekends makes meeting these deadline impossible. Instead they needed a solution that would allow them to move data 24 hours a day by 7 days a week.
Brocade Solution: By using Brocade 7810 extension switches, Broadcom IT increased transfer rates by 72.2 percent with higher replication throughput through protocol optimization and compression, bandwidth control, as well as hardware-based encryption. Leveraging Brocade technologies, the Broadcom IT team was able to drive full performance of their replication traffic over a shared WAN connection without affecting other business traffic.
“Data replication is significantly faster, and we can now run replication during business hours and control the bandwidth. We no longer have to wait for off-business hours or weekends before data transfers can start.” – Alan Davidson
Case study is available on Broadcom.com
