In an opinion piece published in The Weekend Australian today (March 1st, 2025), Angela Shanahan demands that we “Don’t blame Multiculturalism for social woes”.

After taking issue with pre-WW2 Australians for not accepting large scale Jewish immigration she goes on to insist that Australia “has to be an immigrant country” and talks of how good it has been for the immigrants and how well they have all (in her examples/experience) done in Australia. Naturally, no quantitative limits are specified to this immigration.

She finishes by insisting that “We have an ethnically and religiously blind immigration policy and a civilised nation can do no less”. (Emphasis added). What strikes me from this last statement is the implication that there are civilised nations and uncivilised nations.

Ms Shanahan doesn’t specify what she means by “civilised” but if we assume it to encompass such niceties as rule of law, democratic government, free speech, free press etc, then very few nations have historically been “civilised”.

Ms. Shanahan is insisting then that any nation that achieves “civilisation” must immediately open its borders to limitless numbers of people from “uncivilised nations”. These people, of course, have a right to all the advantages of the civilised nation that its people have laboured and usually shed much blood to create.

It is obvious that such a policy would result in those who built civilised nations becoming outnumbered in their own lands.
One might respond that Ms Shanahan’s comment should be ignored as an aberration. Unfortunately, since the 1970s, both political parties have adopted her policy recommendation of ethnicity-blind and religion-blind immigration with catastrophic effects on national unity, identity, and way of life.

Why do our elite institutions and media constantly drip feed us with a skewed morality that only ever takes into account what is good for minorities?

Why do they always act as if the wishes and interests of the majority people who founded the Australian nation and still make up a majority of its population are illegitimate?

Maybe because until the British Australian Community arrived on the scene, we had no one to oppose such specious arguments.
