Old Bull & Bush - N End Way, #Hampstead, #London, #NW3 7HE @OldBullandBush
Records show that this very presentable, spacious, Grade II listed pub would have originally been a farmhouse in the 16450’s and would obtain a licence to sell ale by the 1720’s.
The pub gave birth to a song made famous during a Victorian era of theatrical entertainment named 'Music Hall'. The song "Down at the old Bull and Bush"which dates somewhere in the early 1910’s was sung by Florrie Forde and can still be found online or even purchased on vinyl today.
"Come, come, come and make eyes at me
Down at the Old Bull and Bush,
Come, come, drink some port wine with me,
Down at the Old Bull and Bush,
Hear the little German Band,
Just let me hold your hand dear,
Do, do come and have a drink or two
Down at the Old Bull and Bush, Bush, Bush
Come, come, come and make eyes at me"
I can tell you form listening to the song, its a charm and the thought of anything happening to this pub with such a memory attached it makes me shudder.
