France’s Parcours de Chasse scene is unlike anything else in shooting sports. Every month the Calendrier des Compétitions Parcours de Chasse brings new events — from friendly concours loisir to intense commercial challenges with hundreds of cibles.
If you want real variety, creative trajectories and the true spirit of French ball-trap, this calendar is the best way to plan your season. https://www.reddit.com/r/Vombat07/comments/1pcdre0/calendrier_des_comp%C3%A9titions_de_parcours_de_chasse/

My Season on France’s Clay Trails

If you’ve ever stood on a shooting field in France during summer, you know that sound — the sharp crack rolling across the countryside. That’s the heartbeat of Parcours de Chasse Loisir, a light, friendly, and unbelievably addictive style of clay shooting.

Every season for me begins the same way: scrolling through the Calendrier des compétitions de Parcours de Chasse Loisir. Everything is there — from relaxed Épreuves Loisir to classic Parcours de Chasse traditionnel, and of course the lively summer Ball-Trap Loisir events.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Journées Découvertes — those open-door days when clubs welcome newcomers. The energy is so warm that even total beginners leave with bright eyes and a desire to come back.

And when I want real excitement, I wait for the Grand Prix and Challenges Régionaux — competitions that carry a genuine spirit of rivalry, but with that unmistakable French friendliness.

Each part of the season has its own mood:
🌿 spring brings the first easy rounds,
☀️ summer is all about festivals and Ball-Trap,
🍂 autumn closes the year with finals and good company.

And every time I return, I realize it’s not just about shooting. It’s about the people, the atmosphere, the celebration — and those targets that fly so beautifully you can’t even be upset when you miss.

If you're curious about how Compak Sporting works, here is a short summary of the recent article from Arena Journal. It explains the structure of the discipline, its rules and why formats like Concours FITASC de Compak Sporting attract so many shooters.

Compak Sporting is built around a compact shooting zone (cadre / box), usually about 25×40 m, with five shooting positions (postes 1–5). Each position has a specific menu des plateaux (target menu) that includes simples (singles) and doublés (doubles). Several machines de lancer (trap machines A–E) launch targets with different trajectories such as lapin (rabbit), teal, chandelle, croisés or sortants / entrants.

A standard series includes 25 plateaux, arranged in formats like “only singles”, “3 singles + 1 double”, or “1 single + 2 doubles”. The shotgun must remain in a low-gun position (arme non épaulée) until the target becomes visible. Scoring is straightforward: touché (hit) or zéro (miss), with no bird used for invalid targets.

The article also highlights the advantages of this discipline: compact layout, clear rules, dynamic target variety and suitability for both beginners and experienced shooters. Whether it is a local match or a formal FITASC event such as a compétition de Compak Sporting, the structure remains consistent worldwide.

Looking into clay shooting? Here’s a quick intro to the discipline governed by FITASC, with real-world style and variety.

What is it
Instead of a compact shooting box, this format spreads across open terrain. Shoot from multiple postes, each framed (cadre) — targets can fly over fields, between trees, even across hills. You never know what’s coming.

Targets & shooting
Expect a wide variety of trajectories — lapin (rabbit), chandelle, fast battue, teal, entrants/sortants, croisés. Shots follow the “low gun” rule: shotgun stays below the shoulder until target appears. Each broken target = 1 point (touché), misses count as zéro, invalid launches are repeated as no bird. Doubles (doublés) are allowed.

Why it matters
This format — including official matches like Concours FITASC de Sporting — brings genuine variability, realism and a high technical challenge. Great for shooters craving more than “just targets.”

Ball Trap de la Rapée — the iconic heart of French ball-trap

Hidden in the forests of Normandy, Ball Trap de la Rapée — widely known as Christophe Auvret’s shooting ground — is one of the most symbolic venues in French clay shooting. Founded in 1974, it has become a living monument to the tradition of parcours de chasse, where natural trajectories, hunting spirit, and technical elegance come together.

This is the place where World Champion Christophe Auvret grew up, and where his daughter Lya now represents the new generation of French shooting excellence.

Ball Trap de la Rapee is known for:

authentic woodland trajectories,

up to 18 parcours and 150+ traps,

classic disciplines like FU, fosses, DTL, sanglier courant,

a true club atmosphere where hunters, champions, and beginners shoot side by side.

More than a range — it is a cultural landmark where ball-trap remains a way of life.

why clubs like Cooma Sporting Clays play a key role in elevating the sport: their layouts force shooters to rely on adaptability, target reading, and thoughtful shot-planning rather than repetition;

how events such as the Cooma 100 Target Championship and major tournaments push the discipline forward — with complex target presentations, varied angles, and dynamic challenges that go beyond simple mechanical shooting;

and how the community aspect — from newcomers to seasoned shooters — and thoughtful course- and event design help preserve the heritage of field-style shooting while embracing innovation.
