Another example of how the Japanese have eclipsed American storytelling is the remake of "Legend of the Galactic Heroes" which has just begun its third season. It's a heavily political Space Opera where an Intergalactic Monarchy faces off against a breakaway Republican Empire. The dialectic of fascism versus democracy is portrayed with nuance without painting either side as purely villainous or purely righteous, where legitimate critique of each system is heartily embraced. This is the kind of subtle dialectic that has been lost not only in American discourse but American entertainment in general. I empathize with those that have rejected sci-fi completely but it is easier to suspend your disbelief when it's animated #hobbie

I’m Russian and I have relatives in both part of Ukraine: Donbass and Odessa. I cannot visit those who lives in Donbass for past 5 years as it’s not safe. They lived in scared and they know from where the bombing is coming and it’s not from Russia:( My cousin ran away with his family to Russia in 2015. But my grandma is too old to go anywhere and yes they were happy Putin come to help them. It doesn’t mean all west Ukraine is bad. But ideology antiRussia was always strong there. Still lots of wise and kind people. Please do not judge by the first what you see and hear from your media. Everything what’s going on from 1991 is not an easy topic. Learn history and only then you can deeper understand.
