Statement From Boston Chinese Diaspora for Human Rights
The recent news regarding allegations of sexual harassment and assault involving Wang Dan has come to our attention. This has sparked the deepest concern and empathy within us for the victims of such sexual misconducts.
Beyond the allegations themselves, we are gravely disconcerted by Wang Dan's inadequate and unpersuasive responses. If the accusations prove to be accurate, his dismissive stance could be viewed as an instance of gaslighting towards the victims, exacerbating the severity of the situation.
In light of his public persona, it is crucial for Wang Dan to address these allegations in a complete and convincing manner. If he is determined to be liable under due process, he is obliged to meet not only the responsibilities prescribed by law, but also the ethical obligations set by societal norms. We strongly urge him to respond to these accusations with the seriousness they warrant.
Boston CDHR, a collective established by young activists advocating for democracy and freedom in China, will always prioritize the safety, dignity, and rights of all individuals. Our stance against sexual violence, oppression, harassment, and discrimination is resolute, and we extend unwavering support to the brave survivors who stand against these injustices.
Boston CDHR operates independently of Wang Dan and his represented entities. His recent activities in Boston are not endorsed by our organization. Wan Dan will not be invited as a guest to any event organized by us. His exclusion from future events is assured unless he adequately addresses the allegations against him.
We firmly resist all forms of structural oppression. Our commitment is to ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive environment in all our activities. We stand in solidarity with all survivors of sexual harassment and violence, and pledge our continued support through our actions.
