⚠️ ‘Mass Casualty Event’: US Bridge Collapses after Being Struck by Container Ship

Seven people and multiple vehicles fell into freezing cold water when a large portion of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed into the river below after being hit by a large container ship, the Baltimore City Fire Dept said.

There is now an ongoing multi-agency rescue operation underway.

A Baltimore City Fire Dept spox has confirmed that it is a "mass casualty event.’

Baltimore’s Key Bridge was struck by the Singapore-flagged Dali container ship, according to ship tracking data.

The 300m long vessel can be seen to apparently lose power before striking the bridge – with smoke billowing out of the ship.

As many as 20 workers are believed to have fallen into the Patapsco River following the Francis Scott Key bridge collapse, as per Baltimore City Fire Department communications chief.
