🔈 The SEC has published its Regulation Crypto proposal, outlining a potential framework for how crypto companies and developers could raise funds through tokens while staying within securities rules.

⌛ Term Finance suffered an estimated $8.5M loss after an attacker reportedly gained governance control over its Meta Vaults and used proposals to drain funds.

The incident affected roughly 68% of the $12.45M held in the vault product, including nearly all of its ETH. Term Labs has since closed Meta Vaults to new deposits, removed DAO roles, and kept withdrawals open while investigating. Its core lending markets were reportedly not affected.

‼️ Cronos Halts Network After ~$75M Tectonic Exploit

💵 Cronos halted its chain on Sunday after lending protocol Tectonic suffered an exploit estimated at around $75M. The attack appears to have involved manipulating a thin-liquidity asset, pushing its price up roughly 100x in 20 minutes, then using the inflated value as collateral to borrow other assets.
😆 Around $6M was reportedly bridged to Ethereum before the network halt, while most of the funds remained on Cronos at the time of reporting.

🔈 CLARITY Act Stalls in the Senate

After months of negotiations and a revised 635-page proposal containing 126 Democrat-requested changes, the CLARITY Act failed to clear its key Senate procedural vote on Sept. 15. The motion received 49 votes in favor and 50 against, short of the 60 needed to advance.

The revised text had tightened ethics rules for federal officials and addressed issues around stablecoin rewards and protections for blockchain developers. With the bill stalled, attention now shifts toward the SEC and CFTC and how they may shape crypto rules without new legislation from Congress. Senate Banking Chair Tim Scott has explicitly called on the agencies to establish clearer rules while Congress continues its work. For crypto, regulatory clarity is still a work in progress.
