Shout-out to Stacks Grantee, Jolocom, for launching their new GDPR-compliant blockchain identity management app, SmartWallet 2.0. This app is used for storing digital assets and identification, and users have an easy way to opt out of firms collecting their personally identifiable data.

Users can store their identity info on their device, control who can see it, and understand how their identity is used. Nobody, including Jolocom themselves, can access the data without permission.

CLARITY DEVELOPERS REJOICE! 🙌

Today, Hiro officially announced a tool that greatly streamlines the creation, testing, and deployment of smart contracts on Stacks. Clarinet, developed by engineer Ludo Galabru, is our new go-to utility for local Clarity smart contract development. Its included Clarity REPL and testing harness allow devs to rapidly develop and test a Clarity smart contract, without the need to deploy the contract to a local mocknet or testnet.

Clarinet has truly been Ludo’s labor of love the last few months, and his goal in developing the tool was to make coding smart contracts as streamlined and secure as possible for beginner and experienced Stacks devs alike. Clarinet is so powerful and easy that we’ve even implemented it into tutorials in our docs, like the new Billboard or NFT tutorials. 🛠

A huge thank you to a lot of community members & projects for assisting with the development of Clarinet, using it to build their projects, and giving feedback on desired features. We couldn’t be more thrilled to get this in front of devs, and have them begin incorporating Clarinet while building smart contracts required for their dapp. Don’t be shy! Ludo would love to hear any and all feedback in the tool’s repository on Github.

Tomorrow's builder session will be featuring back-to-back DeFi projects. The first one is Taral, which eliminates the friction, costs, and time normally associated with trade finance. Second is the crowd's favorite Arkadiko, whose progress we will check after they closed their Regtest. We will discuss the various learnings and improvements they made on the product. It might be a bit basic if you’re already experienced with Clarity and have been tinkering with us for a while, but the article should be a nice, quick overview for beginners of some fundamental mechanisms of the language. Patrick Gray, Documentation Lead at Hiro, just dropped a bombshell blog post overviewing the latest addition to the Clarity onboarding experience. There is a brand new tutorial in the documentation, and it is totally focused on building a non-fungible token using Clarity. It deep dives on the SIP-009 trait that makes a contract NFT compliant, and even shares some example code that makes it stupid simple to spin up your own. 🖌

There are so many projects in the Stacks ecosystem innovating with NFTs. ThisIsNumberOne, Boomboxes, rcrdshp, and many more. We’re really thrilled about having an option for beginners to dive into the world of NFTs, and cannot wait to see custom non-fungible smart contracts popping up in the explorer.
