The idea is simple: let the balloon do the first 42km and set the altitude.

Ukraine has reportedly tested an aerostat carrying an AI Hornet kamikaze drone 42 km before dropping it from 26,000 feet.

This will let the drone begin its real mission with roughly 95% of its battery still untouched.

If proven at scale, this could push Hornet’s estimated 100–150 km range by another 1.5x to 2x.

So combined range could reach 300 km.
