Vitalik Buterin is rethinking Ethereum’s rollup-first roadmap.

He recently noted that Ethereum’s original rollup-centric vision no longer fully holds up. While Layer 2 solutions were expected to decentralize quickly, their progress has been significantly slower than planned. In contrast, Ethereum’s base layer has continued to evolve and strengthen. ⚙️

Rather than viewing L2s as “branded shards” of Ethereum, Vitalik now suggests a more flexible framework. Layer 2s can operate at varying levels of trust and integration with Ethereum. However, they should meet a minimum standard of decentralization. If not, they may need to be treated more like independent chains connected via bridges. 🌉

Aave Liquidations Triggered by Oracle Misconfiguration

A misconfigured price feed on @aave triggered about $26 million in liquidations on March 10 after wstETH was briefly valued around 0.9 ETH instead of ~0.99.

The error originated from Aave’s CAPO (Correlated Asset Price Oracle) snapshot logic, which mispriced the asset and caused 34 positions to be liquidated despite normal market conditions.

Aave confirmed no external oracle failure or exploit occurred. Affected users will be fully reimbursed using recovered liquidation bonuses and DAO treasury funds following a post-mortem from Chaos Labs, the protocol’s risk manager.

Binance has filed a defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal following a report published on February 23.

The article alleged that Binance shut down an internal investigation into more than $1 billion in crypto transactions linked to Iranian networks and suspended members of the investigative team after they presented their findings.

Binance strongly denies these claims. The company states that the investigation was never halted, that suspicious accounts were removed from the platform, and that the relevant findings were shared with law enforcement authorities as part of its compliance process.

According to Binance, the lawsuit aims to correct what it describes as false and misleading allegations about the company’s handling of the matter.

Bitcoin Falls Below $70K as Oil Surges on Middle East Tensions

Bitcoin dropped below $70K, falling about 1.8% to ~$69.4K, while Brent Crude Oil surged over 9% to $101+ amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The move once again shows that Bitcoin still behaves more like a risk asset than a crisis hedge.

Key signals to watch:
• Oil shock vs policy response: Even after the International Energy Agency announced a record 400M-barrel emergency release, markets remained volatile following tanker attacks and halted Iraqi exports.
• Macro pressure: Rising oil prices increase inflation expectations, reducing the likelihood of aggressive rate cuts from the Federal Reserve. Markets now price in only one rate cut in 2026.
• Institutional activity: U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have seen three consecutive days of inflows (~$533M), suggesting institutions may be buying the dip.

Bottom line:
Historically, war-driven spending and liquidity injections have often led to easier monetary policy. If that cycle repeats, today’s pressure could eventually become a tailwind for risk assets.

For now, Bitcoin remains primarily a liquidity trade, not a safe-haven asset. 📉

TON Cancels Gateway Dubai Event Due to Regional Safety Concerns

The Open Network has officially canceled its Gateway Dubai conference, which was scheduled for May 1–2, citing safety concerns in the UAE amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and recent missile and drone incidents in the region.

The team behind Toncoin stated that attendee safety remains the top priority. As a result, the event will not proceed as planned.

According to TON Foundation, the organization is currently evaluating alternative formats and may host a Gateway event later this year under safer conditions.
