π‘ ZCASH 101: SHIELDED vs. TRANSPARENT TRANSACTIONS
One of the most misunderstood things about Zcash is this:
Not every ZEC transaction has to be private.
Zcash gives users two fundamentally different ways to transact.
π TRANSPARENT TRANSACTIONS
Transparent Zcash works similarly to Bitcoin.
Transaction data is recorded publicly on the blockchain, meaning information such as addresses, transferred amounts and transaction history can be visible and analyzed.
Transparent addresses traditionally begin with βtβ.
π‘ SHIELDED TRANSACTIONS
Shielded Zcash uses zero-knowledge cryptography to validate transactions without publicly revealing the sensitive transaction data.
In a fully shielded transaction, the blockchain can verify that the transaction is valid without publicly exposing:
β’ the sender
β’ the recipient
β’ the amount transferred
β’ the encrypted memo
The network can therefore enforce the monetary rules without needing to reveal the financial details of the payment.
β‘ WHY DOES ZCASH SUPPORT BOTH?
Because Zcash was designed to give users choice.
Transparent transactions provide compatibility with services and exchanges that don't yet support shielded ZEC.
Shielded transactions provide financial privacy when supported by the user's wallet or service.
Modern Zcash wallets can also use Unified Addresses, allowing different Zcash receiver types to be handled through a more convenient address system.
And following the Ironwood NU6.3 upgrade, Zcash continues evolving its shielded infrastructure while preserving this fundamental idea:
Privacy should be available at the protocol level β not added as an afterthought.
Zcash doesn't simply move value.
It gives users control over how much of their financial activity becomes public.

πΊ ZCASH HITS BLOOMBERG TV
Zcash just got mainstream financial airtime.
Grayscaleβs Krista Lynch appeared on Bloomberg TV to discuss the fundamentals behind $ZEC β including its 21 million supply cap, Proof-of-Work security, zero-knowledge technology and the choice between shielded and transparent transactions.
But the bigger story is the exposure.
Zcash is being discussed on one of the world's most influential financial networks β in front of traditional investors.
And with Grayscale actively promoting its Zcash investment product, $ZEC is increasingly entering conversations far beyond the crypto-native privacy community.
Privacy tech is getting mainstream attention. π

β‘ ZCASH MOVES CLOSER TO NATIVE THORCHAIN SWAPS
Zcash could soon gain a major new decentralized trading route.
With THORChain v3.20, the protocol updated its Zcash integration for compatibility with NU6.3 βIronwoodβ β bringing ZEC another step closer to native cross-chain swaps.
THORChain says Zcash is expected to be the next chain integration.
Why could this matter for ZEC?
π Native cross-chain swaps
ZEC could potentially be exchanged directly with assets on other supported networks through THORChain.
π« No wrapped ZEC required
Native integration could allow users to swap native ZEC without relying on a tokenized representation on another blockchain.
π Less reliance on centralized exchanges
Users could gain another route for exchanging ZEC without depositing funds with a traditional centralized exchange.
π Greater interoperability
Native THORChain support could connect Zcash more directly with the broader cross-chain crypto ecosystem.
β οΈ Important: Some reports claim ZEC swaps are already live. However, THORChain's official v3.20 announcement describes Zcash as βone step closer to launch.β
For that reason, we currently consider the integration upcoming β not yet confirmed live.
If completed, this could become an important new liquidity and accessibility channel for ZEC.
Privacy meets cross-chain liquidity. πβ‘

πͺπΊ ZCASH ETF IS LIVE β BUT EU INVESTORS FACE A BARRIER
Grayscaleβs Zcash ETF (NYSE Arca: ZCSH) is now trading in the United States, opening a regulated exchange-traded route to ZEC exposure.
But many EU retail investors cannot simply buy ZCSH through their brokers.
WHY?
Under the EUβs PRIIPs framework, investment products offered to retail investors generally require a Key Information Document (KID).
The U.S.-listed ZCSH currently does not provide the required EU documentation, creating a regulatory barrier for many European retail brokers.
So what can EU investors do?
β’ BUY ZEC DIRECTLY
Investors can still purchase ZEC through platforms that support it in their jurisdiction and move it to self-custody.
β’ USE EU-ACCESSIBLE INVESTMENT PRODUCTS
Where available, investors can use Zcash-linked products that meet European regulatory and documentation requirements.
β’ PROFESSIONAL INVESTOR ACCESS
Professional clients may have access to products unavailable to retail investors, depending on their classification and broker.
β οΈ IMPORTANT DISTINCTION
The current ZCSH restriction is NOT a ban on owning Zcash in the EU.
It is primarily a regulatory restriction on retail access to a U.S.-listed investment product.
However, another regulatory development is approaching: from July 2027, new EU anti-money-laundering rules will impose additional restrictions on regulated financial and crypto service providers dealing with anonymity-enhancing coins.
That is a separate issue from todayβs ZCSH/PRIIPs barrier β and could have much broader implications for privacy coins in Europe.
