According to Edaily, the South Korean government plans to start taxing virtual assets in January 2027. The National Tax Service is coordinating with major virtual asset operators — Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, Korbit, and Gopax — to develop detailed taxation measures. Gains exceeding KRW 2.5 million will be taxed at a total rate of 22%, which includes 20% income tax and 2% local income tax.
