🧐 #BTC Devs Take Steps to Address the Quantum Threat
An updated version of BIP 360 has been merged into the official Bitcoin BIPs repository. The proposal introduces Pay to Merkle Root, or P2MR, a new opt-in output type that removes Taproot’s quantum vulnerable key path spend while maintaining compatibility with Tapscript and script trees.
Key updates:
• Removes Taproot’s quantum exposed key path in a separate new output type
• Lays groundwork for post quantum signature schemes using Tapscript and script tree optionality at spend time
• Implemented as a soft fork, existing Taproot outputs remain unaffected
• Adds Isabel Foxen Duke as co-author to improve clarity and accessibility beyond the developer community link
