I AM HODLING!
Today is the 6th anniversary of the word HODL!
Bitcoin had a massive bull run to $1180 and crashed weeks after to $382 on December 18th, 2013. That was when BitcoinTalk user GameKyuubi made the legendary post that brought the word 'hodl' to life.
GameKyuubi realized he had spelled 'hold' incorrectly, but he seemed so upset and/or drunk that he intentionally left in the mistake.

Did you know a pre-released version of Bitcoin Core made by Satoshi Nakamoto included code for a PΓ³ker game?
Satoshi never released the code officially as it was shared only by request. Bitcointalk user Cryddit shared the fascinating piece of code on Bitcointalk in 2013.
In addition to a Poker game embedded into the Bitcoin protocol, the code also included an IRC client and a P2P marketplace (like OpenBazaar) that were never developed further by Satoshi. The ideas were shelved and removed from the code on later releases.

πToday is January 3rd, the eleventh anniversary of the Bitcoin Genesis Block.π
Eleventh years ago, Satoshi Nakamoto mined the first block of Bitcoin, not knowing that his invention was going to take the internet by storm a few years later. Today we celebrate Bitcoin's birthday with some days of interesting facts about the Genesis block and the history of Bitcoin itself.
β
Every time a block is created, a field called 'coinbase_input' can be used by the person who mined to block to include data. People have harcoded even marriage proposals in the coinbase data. Nowadays, most miners use the coinbase data to mention who mined the block. However, Bitcoin's Genesis Block has one of the most famous phrases in Bitcoin history, hardcoded forever by Satoshi in the Coinbase data of the Genesis block:
The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks
Many believe this was a philosophical and political message in response to 2008's economic crisis and the subsequent bank bailouts.
Have you ever seen a message hardcoded on the blockchain? Now is your chance, check out the first message ever written on a blockchain here: https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/block/0
