๐Ÿ’ฅThis book brings together an international team of experts to discuss the state-of-the-art from several fields of bioinformatics, from the automatic identification and classification of viruses to the analysis of the transcriptome of single cells and plants, including artificial intelligence algorithms to discover biomarkers and text mining approaches to help in the interpretation of the findings. Machine learning, pattern discovery and analysis, error correction, Bayesian inference and novel computational techniques to discover chromosomal rearrangements continue to play crucial roles in biological discovery, and all of them are explored in chapters of this book. In sum, this book contains high-quality chapters that provide excellent views into key topics of current bioinformatics research, topics that should remain important for the next several years.

Status of Bioinformatics Education in South Asia: Past and Present

๐Ÿ’ฅFrom paper abstract: Bioinformatics education has been a hot topic in South Asia, and the interest in this education peaks with the start of the 21st century. This article renders bioinformatics, measures, and its importance of implementation in South Asia with proper ways of improving bioinformatics education flaws. It also addresses the problems faced in South Asia and proposes some recommendations regarding bioinformatics education. The information regarding bioinformatics education and institutes was collected from different existing research papers, databases, and surveys. The information was then confirmed by visiting each institutionโ€™s website, while problems and solutions displayed in the article are mostly in line with South Asian bioinformatics conferences and institutionsโ€™ objectives.

๐Ÿ“ƒThe bioinformatics toolbox for circRNA discovery and analysis

Abstract: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a unique class of RNA molecule identified more than 40 years ago. Recent advances in sequencing technologies and bioinformatics tools have led directly to an ever-expanding field of types and biological functions of circRNAs. In parallel with technological developments, practical applications of circRNAs have arisen including their utilization as biomarkers of human disease. Currently, circRNA-associated bioinformatics tools can support projects including circRNA annotation, circRNA identification and network analysis of competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA). In this review, we collected about 100 circRNA-associated bioinformatics tools and summarized their current attributes and capabilities. We also performed network analysis and text mining on circRNA tool publications in order to reveal trends in their ongoing development.

๐Ÿ’ฅAbstract: Clinical metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS), the comprehensive analysis of microbial and host genetic material (DNA and RNA) in samples from patients, is rapidly moving from research to clinical laboratories. This emerging approach is changing how physicians diagnose and treat infectious disease, with applications spanning a wide range of areas, including antimicrobial resistance, the microbiome, human host gene expression (transcriptomics) and oncology. Here, we focus on the challenges of implementing mNGS in the clinical laboratory and address potential solutions for maximizing its impact on patient care and public health.

๐Ÿ’ฅPosition Summary: The lab of Professor Albert-Lรกszlรณ Barabรกsi, together with the Network Science Institute at Northeastern University and the Division of Network Medicine at Harvard University, is looking for postdoctoral research associates in the area of biological networks, bioinformatics and machine learning/AI.
Our current work spans the applications of networks toward understanding human diseases, disease progression, biomarker discovery and drug repurposing.

โœ…Basic Qualifications: We are seeking motivated individuals with an interest in exploring the complexity of biological systems from a network perspective. The ideal candidate has a bioinformatics, physics, computer science, mathematics, or statistics Ph.D., and working experience in network science/bioinformatics and ML/AI/DL. Experience and familiarity with biological systems is expected.

๐Ÿ’ฅfrom Abstract: The role of bioinformatics has been highlighted in drug discovery and development (DDD), proteomics, genetics, modeling, miRNA discovery and assessment, and clinical genome sequencing. The authors have collated significant data from the most known online databases and publishers, also narrowing the diversified applications, in order to target four major areas (tetrad): DDD, anti-microbial research, genomic sequencing, and miRNA research and its significance in the management of current pandemic context.
