The Romanian president, Klaus Johannis, visited Brazil on the eve of the 95th anniversary of the opening of Romanian—Brazilian diplomatic relations. Lula da Silva iterated the significance of these bilateral relations between Romania and Brazil, mentioning that the 40k Romanian citizens residing in his country "contribute significantly for the development of Brazil".

Da Silva reiterated his commitment to fighting climate change and cited Romania as a good example in the fight against climate change as Romania has one of the highest forest coverages in Europe.

The SDF aimed to enlist 9,245 such personnel for the year ended in March, but recruited only about 4,300. Reaching less than half of the goal was well below the previous low of 72% set in fiscal 2018.

Some at Japan's Defense Ministry think Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year and China's military exercises around Taiwan contributed to the drop by increasing the perceived risk of war.
