🔴 Farm attacks is one of the biggest problems of South Africa. The attacks target farmers, who are usually white, and farms workers.
Farm murders have become a very unique phenomenon in South Africa, not only in terms of the extremely high frequency at which South African farmers are murdered, but also the extreme levels of brutality and torture that characterize these crimes. Unfortunately, this is also a phenomenon that the South African government mostly chooses to ignore.
Farm attacks became a major concern in the new South Africa a few years after the end of apartheid. The term "Farm attacks" has no formal legal definition, but such attacks have been the subject of discussion by media and public figures in South Africa and abroad.
To make this issue visible, we’ve collected the data on the farm attacks in 2022 – and these are just the cases mentioned in the media and Twitter. The real numbers remain unknown.

🇿🇦🇮🇱🇵🇸 Hundreds marched in South Africa against Israeli attacks on Gaza
Yesterday hundreds of South Africans marched on the streets of Cape Town and other SA cities on Friday, protesting against the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
Holding Palestinian flags and banners with messages of solidarity with Palestinians, protesters marched to parliament.
“I call on the President, Cyril Ramaphosa not to only stand at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and speak on Palestine, but act upon it,” Mandla Mandela, a grandson of Nelson Mandela, said in his address to the large crowd. He called Israel an "apartheid state".
Mandela also called on South Africa’s Minister of Transport to cancel the air traffic license of Israeli airline El Al.
The protest organized by the Al-Quds Foundation drew people from various religious denominations, including Muslims, Christians and Jews.

🇿🇦🇵🇸 South Africa leader Ramaphosa pledges solidarity with Palestinians
South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa has reiterated support for Palestinians in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
It comes two days after he called for the immediate and unconditional opening of “humanitarian corridors” so that aid can get to people who need it.
"As people and an organisation that has struggled against an oppressive system of Apartheid we do pledge solidarity with the Palestinians and as the African National Congress we have always pledged our solidarity," Ramaphosa said attending an anti-Israel protest wearing a Palestinian headscarf.
"We are deeply concerned about the atrocities that are unfolding and we have passed our condolences to the people of Israel as we are passing our condolences to the people of Palestine," he added.
Ramaphosa said that the only solution for the problems is the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.

🇿🇦🇮🇱🇺🇳 South Africa launches genocide case against Israel at International Court of Justice
Our friends from SAMU.ZA reported that South Africa has launched a case against Israel at the UN’s international court of justice (ICJ) accusing the state of committing genocide in its military campaign in Gaza.
Israel responded to the allegations “with disgust”, calling South Africa’s case a “blood libel” and urging the ICJ to reject it.
“The acts and omissions by Israel complained of by South Africa are genocidal in character because they are intended to bring about the destruction of a substantial part of the Palestinian national, racial and ethnical group,” the South African application said.
“Provisional measures are necessary in this case to protect against further, severe and irreparable harm to the rights of the Palestinian people under the Genocide Convention, which continue to be violated with impunity.”

🇺🇸🇿🇦🇮🇱 US dismisses South Africa's case against Israel as 'meritless'
The US has dismissed South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
South Africa argued that Israel is committing "genocidal" acts in Gaza in the case filed at the ICJ last week.
"As pertains the United States, we are not seeing any acts that constitute genocide," US Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller said.
White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby also said on Wednesday that the US considers the case "meritless, counterproductive and completely without any basis in fact whatsoever".

🇿🇦🇮🇱🇺🇳 South Africa argues genocide case at UN top court
On the first of two days of legal arguments at the International Court of Justice, South Africa's Justice Minister presented his country's case against Israel whom they accuse of genocide in its war in Gaza.
Justice Minister Ronald Lamola said on Thursday that Israel's response to the 7th of October 2023 attack had crossed a line "and gives rise to the breaches of the convention."
South Africa launched its case at the United Nations' top court in November and has asked the ICJ to order an immediate halt to Israel's military campaign in Gaza.
South African lawyer Adila Hassim argued that Israel's conduct violated articles 2A, 2B, 2C, and 2D of the 1948 Genocide Convention.

🇮🇱🇿🇦🇵🇸🇺🇳 Israel says South Africa serving Hamas in latest bid to World Court
South Africa's latest request to the World Court against a possible offensive by Israel in southern Gaza serves Hamas and is an attempt to stop Israel from defending itself, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
South Africa on Tuesday asked The ICJ to consider whether Israel's plan to extend its offensive in Gaza into the city of Rafah requires additional emergency measures to protect Palestinians.
"South Africa continues to represent the interests of the Hamas terrorist organization and is trying to deny Israel the fundamental right to defend itself and its citizens," said Israel Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
"Israel is committed to upholding international law, including facilitating the transfer of humanitarian aid and preventing harm to innocents, while the Hamas terrorists are hiding behind the civilian population in the Gaza Strip and are holding 134 people hostage," he added.

🇿🇦🇮🇱 South African citizens fighting in Israel will be arrested said the foreign minister
South Africa's Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor has said that its citizens who have been fighting in Gaza with the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) will be arrested on their return to the country.

It is not clear how many people this could affect.
South Africa had already warned last year that its citizens that they may be liable to prosecution if they fought with the IDF.

🔦🇲🇿 — South African Mission in Mozambique continues withdrawing.
💡#SAMIM is a joint force of countries from the #SADC (South African Development Cooperation), comprising of South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Tanzania, Angola, Zambia, Malawi, DRC and Namibia.
💡The force started withdrawing the 5th of April with the first contingent to leave being Botswana, followed by South Africa, and no later than yesterday left Zambia and Angola, Lesotho is in the process of getting their soldiers out of Cabo Delgado, the rest of contingents will be gone by July 16th 2024.
💡#Tanzania, #SouthAfrica and #Rwanda however pledged to either send another contingent or keep the one present in their place to fill the power vacuum.
💡The disappointment in #Mozambique is notable because of the lack of effect the alliance had in Cabo Delgado where the insurgency hasn't slowed down and funding has been extremely low.
