Germany and France argue that such bans on the sale of grains inside the territory of the aforementioned countries are against the treaties of the common market. The German agriculture minister, Cem Ozdemir, said that his country is ready to financially help Poland if the need arises but that Germany cannot accept Poland placing the need to win the elections on Ukraine, somehow accusing PiS of choosing protectionism of its economy over Ukrainian profits.

The EU has allocated 156 million EURs to the five countries from the EU’s agricultural crisis fund.

France argues that the EU should solve these problems collectively rather than individually. To supplement the now terminated Black Sea grain deal, the EU is looking to expand its land transport routes for the Ukrainian grains.

The EU is the largest importer of Ukrainian grains contrary to the assumption that Ukrainian grains feed African and Middle Eastern countries. This didn’t matter to Ukrainian politicians as the money was coming in even if it ruined the markets of its neighbours that armed it and financially supported it throughout the war. Yet, the Ukrainian PM arrogantly accused Poland of risking the safety of the global food chain by refusing to let Ukrainian farmers run out of business their polish counterparts.

Despite Romania being EU’s 4th grain producer, Romania imported in 2022 a lot of Ukrainian grain, with more than 10% of Ukraine’s grain exports being imported by Romanian traders.

🇺🇦❌🇷🇴🇵🇱🇭🇺🇸🇰🇧🇬 Ukrainian president, Vladimir Zelenskyy, called the extension of the grain ban in Romania, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine as “unacceptable” and “un-european”.

Meanwhile, Lithuania has proposed to reroute Ukrainian grain shipments towards its ports in the Baltic Sea.
