The letter to the Wall Street watchdog comes amid expectations the firm may sell its shares in the US.
"We have zero tolerance for forced labour," Shein told the BBC.

The company also said that it currently has no plans for a listing on Wall Street.

The letter, which was signed by two dozen Republican and Democrat lawmakers, cited "credible allegations of utilising underpaid and forced labour"."

— "Uyghurs seeking justice for loved ones imprisoned in China have turned to a little-known United Nations body for help.

Over the past year, the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has issued three rulings on a total of eight Uyghur detainees. In every case, it has ruled against China, saying Beijing violated their human rights by imprisoning them.

“Each case is an individual story and yet more proof of China’s attempt to erase the Uyghurs as a whole,” said Tumaris Yalqun, who successfully petitioned the group for a ruling on her father, writer and textbook editor Yalqun Rozi."

Release Uyghur detainees!” yelled Arkin, a Uyghur-Canadian, as a group of about 20 demonstrators – some holding the blue and white crescent-and-star flag of East Turkistan, the Uyghurs’ homeland in what is now Xinjiang, China – chanted the words back to her.

The protests came in response to the April death of Mettohti Metqurban, 40, a Uyghur refugee at the Suan Phlu Immigration Detention Center in Bangkok, due to suspected liver failure. He was the fifth Uyghur to perish in the facility since 2018, and the second one to die this year."
