Local elections in Moldova’s pro-Russian autonomous region of Gagauzia were won on Sunday by the Ilan Shor Party’s candidate, Evghenia Gutul, according to results published by the Electoral Commission in Comrat, the central administrative city in the region.

🇲🇩🗳🟦⬜️🟥 A number of Moldovan politicians have asked for the Gagauzian elections to be invalidated. PAS has refrained to comment on the elections deciding to wait after the Comrat Court of Appeals validates or invalidates the election results.
As for the constitutionality of the Shor Party, the meeting was postponed for tomorrow after Shor's lawyer stalled for time making a number of requests.

🇲🇩🗳🟦⬜️🟥 Prime-minister, Dorin Recean, suggested that PAS and his cabinet are looking to see the Gagauzian elections invalidated. The Gagauzian elections were won by Eugenia Guțul, a Shor Party candidate. The Shor Party is one of two main opposition parties in Moldova which saw an impressive rise in popularity during the the administrations of PAS now on par with the socialist party in terms of support. Due to the criminal background of the Shor Party's leader, Ilan Shor, which self-exiled himself to Israel to escape prosecution, PAS has found a good excuse to get the Shor Party banned eliminating one of the main critics of their rule.

He cited for motives of the withdrawal the fact that the CIS did not help with creating peace in Transnistria and the several embargoes placed by Russia on Moldova, such events being considered by the Moldovan official as "gross violations of the pacts signed with the CIS".
He added that, in its place, Moldova will sign bilateral accords with other members of the CIS of its choosing.

🇲🇩🗳🟦⬜️🟥 The Central Electoral Commission in Comrat validated the elections for governor of Gagauzia.
Eugenia Guțul won the elections with 52% of the vote.
Grigorii Uzun lost the elections with 47% of the vote.
The results have to be confirmed again by the Comrat Court of Appeals. No appeals were made in regards with the elections.

The General Assembly of Gagauzia called for an urgent meeting tonight. The Gagauzian MPs are not happy with Chisinau's interference in the local affairs of the autonomous unit.
Yesterday, prime-minister Dorin Recean stated that the Gagauzian elections had a number of irregularities in them while not providing any concrete evidence to back up his claims only saying that "the police will convince the electoral commission of the irregularities that took place during the elections".

China and the US became locked in an intense military confrontation as close as 150km from Hong Kong in early 2021, prompting the US to destroy its own floating sonars. This has been revealed for the first time since the incident.
On January 5th three US military aircraft launched a submarine hunt unusually close to China’s shoreline. China's People Liberation Army, which was conducting a naval exercise in the area, responded swiftly by sending out a counter force, the size and nature of which remains classified.
The two forces were so close that the US military self-destroyed its floating sonars to prevent the sensitive devices from falling into China’s hands.
