1) BREAKING: ISIS’ Furqan issues new video showing leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, marking the first time he is shown in a video since his July 2014 sermon at the Great Mosque in #Mosul

2) The video shows Baghdadi in a casual conversational setting with others (their faces blurred). He talks about war against "Crusaders" and about battles in #Baghouz #Syria being over, indicating that this interview was filmed somewhat recently.

3) In the vid, titled “In the Hospitality of the Emir of the Believers,” Baghdadi praises #SriLanka attackers over images of the attackers/attack (though not in the visual interview section; the audio may have thus been added via a later recording)--calling it revenge for Baghouz

4) Baghdadi also accepts pledges from #BurkinaFaso and #Mali, directly mentioning Abu Walid al-Sahrawi and praising him and his attacks against French forces and their allies. This marks ISIS' most significant endorsement/embrace of Sahrawi to date.

Burkina Faso's Prime Minister, Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambela, in a visit to neighbouring Mali this week, has suggested that the countries should form a federation.

He said the economies of both countries were based on cotton, cattle and gold, and forming a common market would provide more financial clout.

There's been no response from Mali to the suggestion.

Both nations are battling jihadist insurgencies and have expelled French forces.

🇧🇫🇷🇺 Burkina Faso hails Russia as a "strategic partner"

Burkina Faso's interim president, Captain Ibrahim Traore, has said he was satisfied with his country's military ties with Russia, which he described as "a strategic partner".

"I am satisfied with our military co-operation with Russia. Besides, Burkina Faso's cooperation with Russia dates back to a long time, but we are developing it and move it further," he said on Thursday.

He denied that Russian mercenaries from the Wagner group were supporting Burkinabe forces in their fight against Islamist armed groups.

He said the exit of French forces from the country "does not mean that France is no longer an ally because the French embassy is still here".

But he cited "new forms of co-operation" describing Russia as an an example of "a strategic ally". He said Turkiye was a major partner.

🇧🇫🇳🇪 Burkina Faso troops join raid on militants in Niger

The armies of Burkina Faso and Niger have killed an unknown number of militants in joint operations, local media has reported.

The attack comes a week after Burkina Faso’s parliament approved the deployment of troops to Niger in order to fight the Islamist uprising along the countries' common border.

Burkina Faso’s state-owned RTB TV channel said on Sunday that raids where launched after troops spotted “a column of terrorists” leaving Niger for Burkina Faso.

Joint forces “neutralised these attackers in pairs on 100 motorbikes and destroyed most of their logistics” in eastern Burkina Faso's Kantchari area, the channel added.

🇧🇫🇫🇷 Burkina Faso junta suspends French magazine over "untruthful" articles

Burkina Faso's military junta on Monday suspended the French news magazine Jeune Afrique for publishing "untruthful" articles that reported tension and discontent within the country's armed forces, it said in a statement.

Jeune Afrique's suspension marks the latest escalation in a crackdown on French media.

The statement accused the publication of seeking to discredit armed forces and of manipulating information to "spread chaos" in the country following two articles published over the past four days.
