Led by the son of the Last Shah of Iran and current Exiled Crown Prince, Reza Pahlavi, a crowd of thousands of Iranians gathered in the city of Los Angeles, in US West Coast, watched the prince's speech denouncing the Iranian Government, as well as demanding the restoration of the Iranian Monarchy
The royalist demonstrators carried with them Imperial Era flags - the Lion and Sun flag -, Anti-government banners, Royalist Banners, and, incredible as it may seem, Flags of the Sassanid Empire, customarily used by Persian Nationalists and Practicing Zoroastrians as symbol
According to monarchist organizations, among 80,000 protesters participated in the protests in Los Angeles, although it is not confirmed by the local government.

๐ณ๐ฌ Nigeria military denies coup plot claim ahead of poll
The Nigerian military has denied a claim by the governing party that it is planning to disrupt the upcoming presidential election.
An official from the APC party had said that generals had last week held a secret meeting with the rival PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
The allegations are "wicked" and "malicious", the army statement said. The army said that it was professional and "loyal to the constitution" and would never be part of a plot to overthrow the civilian authorities. "The Armed Forces of Nigeria will never be part of any ignoble plot to truncate our hard-earned democracy," army added.

๐ณ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ง Obi outlines platform at Chatham House
Nigerian Labour Party candidate Peter Obi outlined his political platform at a recent speaking engagement at the UK's famous Chatham House. The content of his speech gives a fair idea of the problems facing Nigeria today.
Obi's platform is as follows:
1. Reduce violent insecurity, i.e. banditry and insurgencies in northern and southeastern Nigeria
2. Heavily invest in agriculture as the first step to change Nigeria from a consuming to a producing, industrial economy
3. Fight corruption, reform inefficient civil service
4. Embrace new digital technologies
5. Upgrade infrastructure, improve Nigeria's infamous and chronic power shortage
6. Enhance human capital resources
7. Conduct an Afro-centric foreign policy
All three major candidates discuss all of these issues across their various campaign events, as Nigeria is a vast country with many constituencies to please. Consequently it is difficult to effect change across one of the world's most populous nations. If Obi, or any candidate could seriously realize even one of these policy goals in one term as president, they would do a great service to Nigeria.

๐ณ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ง Bola Tinubu also delivered a speech at Chatham House in December 2022, making largely the same points as Obi on Nigeria's economy and security.
Tinubu, however, spent much more time than Obi discussing Nigeria's foreign policy, specifically stressing the importance to Nigeria of protecting security and economic integration in the ECOWAS zone of West Africa. In other words, taking an active role in resolving the unrest in ECOWAS states such as Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.

โ "A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, adjourned the hearing on the suit filed by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) seeking a referendum to determine the fate of Biafra and other self-determination agitations to March 30, 2023.
It would be recalled that the CNG, in June 2021, dragged the National Assembly and the Attorney-General of the Federation to court, asking it to compel the defendants to halt the ongoing constitutional review exercise and in its place, conduct a referendum to ascertain โwhat determines Nigeria and who populates it.โ
The case was adjourned after the court presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo could not sit as scheduled."

๐๐ณ๐ฌ African Union to deploy top poll observers for Nigeriaโs elections
The African Union Commission announced Tuesday that it will be sending a 90-strong observer mission to Nigeria for this month's elections.
The African Union Election Observation Mission is being headed by former Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta, who helped broker a deal to end two years of war in northern Ethiopia and is mediating in the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The AU said the objectives of the mission were to provide an "accurate and impartial assessment" of the electoral process, offer recommendations for any improvement in future polls, and demonstrate AU support "towards consolidation of democracy, peace, stability, and development in Nigeria".
Election day is set for February 25.

At the meeting with the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Leena Pylvanainen, Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama expressed displeasure over the orders given by Simon Ekpa to his teeming followers who consequently embarked on killings, maiming, burning and other destructive activities.
