On Thursday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his gratitude to Masoud Barzani and the Kurdistan Region for their expression of sympathy towards the victims of Turkey's devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake which occurred on Monday.

During a phone call between the President and the leader of the KDP, Erdogan extended his thanks to Barzani and the Kurdistan Region for their show of support towards the people of Turkey and the families impacted by the earthquake.

🇳🇬 More than 100 killed after militia attacked village in Nigeria

The death toll from the clash between terrorists and the Yansakai Group in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State has risen above 100, although the state government says the exact number is unknown.

Witnesses told there had been "more than 48 hours of fighting" between vigilantes and the "bandits".

Katsina State Secretary is said to have told residents not to "wait for government" but be "courageous enough to confront the devil before they finish them". State Secretary added “Before Government intervenes the damage has been done, so organize yourselves to confront them".

He also said that normalcy has since returned to the area and security forces have dominated the scene.

With the federal election fast approaching, 516 illegal immigrants possessing voter cards have been arrested in Zaria, Kaduna state.

Most of the illegals were from the Republic of Niger, but Senegalese, Togolese and Chadians were also arrested.

In a recent interview, Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, James Christoff, described his country's feminist foreign policy approach to Nigeria as a solution for insecurity and poverty.

When asked how Canada is helping Nigeria tackle its jihadist insurgency, Christoff responded that by promoting stability and development, his country's Feminist International Assistance Policy will help bring security to Nigeria. Indeed, Christoff spent the larger part of the interview emphasizing Canada's foreign policy focus on empowering women globally. "Bilaterally, Canada focuses on four key areas that are aimed at improving the lives of women and girls, based on Canada’s overarching Feminist International Assistance Policy (or FIAP)."

Christoff also highlighted Canada's support for vaccination drives and "Climate Mitigation and Adaptation" in Nigeria.

"Foundational conditions such as high population growth rates, gender inequality, insecurity, climate change impacts on availability of food and other resources, the wealth gap between the rich and the poor, corruption, and distribution of resources all contribute to Nigeria’s poverty," he concluded.

Eni and the Spanish oil company Repsol received authorizations from the US State Department in May last year. to export Venezuelan oil to Europe as a form of payment for outstanding debts with Venezuela and overdue dividends, an exception to US oil sanctions against Venezuela.
