🇵🇹👑🗳📃 — Major & unexpected change in Portuguese Politics: Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo's Democratic Alliance composed by the PSD (Center-Right) and the CDS (Christian Democrats) signed a coalition formalization agreement to include the Far-Right People's Monarchist Party into the Government

On January 08, 2024 AD, the president of the Portuguese Social-Democratic Party (PSD), Luís Montenegro, the leader of the Center-Right CDS-PP, Nuno Melo, and the leader of the Monarchist PPM, Gonçalo da Câmara Pereira, celebrated this Sunday the signing of the Democratic Alliance agreement which took place at Alfândega do Porto, in Porto, in a completely packed room.

In their respective interventions, the three party leaders drew comparisons with the past of the now re-edited coalition and called for a vote, presenting themselves as the alternative after eight years of Socialist governance.

The three leaders outlined the priorities for the coming months of the pre-election coalition and, above all, stated that they were, as a whole, the only viable alternative to the Socialist Party.

This movement caused horror to Portuguese liberals and socialists who enjoyed hegemony in Portuguese politics for decades, mainly after the 1974 Socialist Coup that deposed the Salazarist Regime, with them accusing the Center-Right Coalition of wanting to "normalize monarchist reactionism" in Portugal.

🇮🇱🇵🇸🕊📹 — On January 6, 2024 AD, a few thousands of Israeli citizens staged a protest in Tel Aviv against the Right-wing Government of Benjamin Netanyahu, calling for his resignation and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to allow the release of hostages

Notably, many of the protesters were supporters of the Israeli Left, which was heavily sidelined in the last elections, and of the liberal secular opposition that uses those kidnapped in Gaza as a political platform to protest Netanyahu and his government.

As expected, security forces crackdowned on the protesters and arrested some.
