— On Wednesday morning, it was announced that incumbent President Ali Bongo Ondimba (right photo), from the Center-Right Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) won 64.2% of the vote and was re-elected as head of state.

He was first elected in 2009 after the death of his father, Omar Bongo Ondimba (left photo), who served as President of Gabon for over 40 years.

— The situation with the elections was difficult, on Saturday a curfew was introduced by the Government.

— Internet access was blocked, and the authorities suspended the broadcast of the French radio station RFI and France24 TV channel, as the rebels in Niger had previously done.

— Ali Bongo's rivals were Academician Albert Ondo Ossa (he scored 30%) and Protestant Bishop Mike Joktan, Citizens Awakening Party candidate businessman Terence Gnembu and former Vice President of the Republic Pierre Claver Maganga Mussavu from the Social Democratic Party, who was nominated in presidents for the fifth time
