🌐🇻🇪BRICS+: The Venezuelan dictatorship reaffirmed its interest in joining the New Development Bank of BRICS during a meeting between the regime's Chancellor, Yván Gil, and the advisor of the financial institution, Alessandro Teixeira.

During the meeting, which took place alongside the Amazonian Countries Summit, where leaders of eight governments are gathered in Belém, the Chancellor reiterated Venezuela's interest in joining what he described as an "important economic bloc."

The BRICS have a scheduled meeting this month in South Africa, and Venezuela will seize this opportunity to "build relationships" and seek support in its attempt to be accepted by these countries, which currently maintain governments with close affinities to the Chavista regime.

🇧🇷🤝🇦🇷🇦🇪🇸🇦📰 CC: Lula criticizes the G7 and defends Argentina, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia in the BRICS — On last August 2, 2023, Brazilian President Lula openly criticized the Group of 7 and defends Argentina, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia…
🇧🇷🤝🇦🇷🇦🇪🇸🇦📰 UOL: Lula defends the expansion of Brics, with criteria such as economic strength

• Despite the cautious position of Brazilian diplomacy with the expansion of the Brics -- a group formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa --, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that he defends the integration of new countries, within the criteria which will be defined at the summit at the end of this month.

• Brazilian diplomacy, as Reuters showed, is reticent in relation to the expansion. There is a fear of losing relative space in the bloc and that the Brics will end up being used as a force against the G7, which is not a traditional position of Brazil, more conciliatory.

• Sources heard by Reuters admit, however, that it is a minority position (within Brazilian diplomacy) and that Brazil will negotiate, as is its tradition, to try criteria that take into account the Brazilian concern. Among them, the defense of global governance reform and regional parity criteria.

• In defending the expansion, Lula said he wanted a strong bloc, with a strong bank, that could "help the countries".

• Noteworthy that Brazil also participated in the last G7 meeting, in Japan, as a guest country, and is a member of the G20, a group in which discussions have been prioritized, as well as in the Brics.

🇧🇷🇺🇳🗳📰 G1 (May 20, 2023): In G7 session, Lula defends UN Security Council reform and criticizes 'antagonistic blocs'

— During the G7 Session back in May 2023, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke at a working session of the G7, in Hiroshima, Japan. During his speech, the Brazilian President criticized the formation of "antagonistic blocs" and defended the reform of the Council of UN security.

• Lula participated in the meeting called "Working Together to Face Multiple Crises". During the speech, the president recalled that this is the seventh time he has been invited to the G7 meeting, which brings together the United States, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Canada.

• "The World Trade Organization remains paralyzed. Nobody remembers the Development Round. The challenges accumulated and got worse. With each threat we fail to face, we generate new urgencies," he said.

• Lula took the opportunity to defend a reform of the UN Security Council, with the accession of new permanent members.

• Interestingly, such a position in favor of a UN Security Council reform was pursued by his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro, with support from the United Kingdom and Russia.

🇧🇷🇺🇳🗳📰 Brazilian Report (September 21, 2022): Biden Signals support for Latin American seats on UN Security Council
— "U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday expressed his support for a reform of the UN Security Council, adding permanent seats for African and Latin American countries. For decades, Brazil has sought a permanent seat at the UN’s top body.

• “The U.S. supports increasing the number of both permanent and non-permanent representatives of the Council. This includes permanent seats for those nations we’ve long supported and permanent seats for countries in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean,” Mr. Biden said before the UN General Assembly.

• Mr. Biden did not name specific countries that could be assigned the new permanent seats. In 2004, Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan formed a group known as G4 — which bid collectively for the expansion of permanent and non-permanent seats. Foreign ministers of the group’s participants will hold a meeting this week in New York.

• Brazil and Japan are the countries that have been elected the most times to a rotational seat at the council: on 11 occasions each. Brazil is currently serving the 2022-2023 term and in July held the body’s rotational presidency.

🇧🇷🤝🇺🇸📰 Poder360 (July 28, 2023)): Lula wants meeting to discuss climate issue, says Biden
— "The President of the United States, Joe Biden, said this Friday (July 28, 2023) that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) expressed his desire to meet “soon” to address issues related to the climate. The information is from Reuters.

• “Lula from Brazil wants to meet with me soon because you know that there is more carbon absorbed from the air in the Amazon than all the carbon admitted to the United States annually,” Biden said at a campaign event, without saying when the meeting would take place.

• To CNN, Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it plans a meeting between the two chief executives for September during the week in which the UN General Assembly takes place.

• In February of this year, Lula met with Biden on a visit to the White House. It was the 1st meeting between the Brazilian leftist leader and the American Democrat. On the occasion, they discussed Brazil's relationship with the US government, the economic agenda and the climate issue and environmental preservation.

Tomorrow we will be providing live coverage of the PASO elections

The PASO are the mandatory primary elections in Argentina which decide the final candidates and final parties which will be able to run for the election, there is a theoretical unlimited number of candidates that can register with each party that can participate in the PASO election, as such the primaries which are open and mandatory to all voting people not just party members serves as a way to consolidate each party into a single member which will represent them.

There is a deadline for official registration (we hit that late June) at which point you have all the official presidential candidates and those parties are thus granted more funding for their campaigns, publicity spots amongst other benefits,
However all parties which cannot reach the minimum entry bar of 1.5% of votes will not be allowed to run for the elections.

🇲🇷🇲🇱 Mauritania mediates with Tuareg separatists in Mali

According to several sources, the Mauritanian government has begun mediating between the government of Mali and the Tuareg separatist CMA, which controls significant territory in the northern half of the country.

There is currently a dispute between the two sides over who will assume control of a MINUSMA base in the northern city of Ber, as the UN force withdraws from the country. The Malian government wants its own forces to step in, while the separatist CMA claims this would violate a ceasefire agreement which stipulated that the two sides remain in their positions at the time of signing.

The ceasefire in question was signed in 2014 in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott with mediation by the hosting government.

🇵🇰🇵🇰🇨🇳 — On Today, August 13, 2023, local Pakistani medias and Chinese State Medias reported that a convoy of Chinese engineers was attacked near a Police Station in Gwadar, Balochistan Province in Southwestern Pakistan.

According to the reports, 7 vehicles — mostly SUVs and a van, all bulletproof — belonging to a convoy of a Mainland Chinese Company came under a heavy attack by armed militants. The Convoy was carrying carried 23 Chinese nationals, mostly engineers.

During the ambush, an IED exploded and the van was shot at, creating cracks in the glass.

According to Chinese State Media, there have been no injuries or casualities reported within the attacked Chinese convoy, which is currently guarded by Pakistani security forces and is generally safe

Gwadar and Balochistan province are known in West Asia for being a hotspot for Baloch separatist insurgents — some of a nationalist bent, others of a Marxist/libertarian-socialist bent — in recent years, with Balochistan guerrillas often attacking facilities belonging to Chinese Companies, which local separatist groups accuse of being "Imperialist and Neo-Colonial Entities", something very nteresting, so to speak, given that such groups trace their origins back to the Soviet Occupation Era of Afghanistan.
