πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¨πŸ‡¨πŸ‡΄ Ecuador and Colombia start dialogue after suspected military incursion

Ecuador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility stated that it is engaged in β€œcordial conversations” with Colombian authorities following Colombia’s claim about a supposed incursion into its territory by Ecuadorian military personnel.

The Ecuadorian ministry did not confirm or deny the incident but stressed that dialogue is being maintained concerning any possible issues surrounding the operation.

Colombia had reported the presence of Ecuador’s Armed Forces on its territory, specifically in the indigenous Yarinal de San Marcelino reservation, located in the department of Putumayo. It was said that the military personnel were conducting an operation against drug trafficking.

This resulted in the activation of diplomatic and military channels between both nations, leading to a resolution that saw the Ecuadorian military retreat to the southern bank of the San Miguel river, with detainees from the operation being released.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬ Nigerian governor imposes 24-hour curfew in state over violence and looting

A governor in northeastern Nigerian state of Adamawa on Sunday imposed a 24-hour curfew after youths broke into shops to steal food and other goods.

Umaru Fintiri declared the curfew β€œdue to escalating violence by hoodlums attacking people and businesses.” He said only people on essential duties were exempted from the no-movement order.

Adamawa, a largely conservative Muslim state, is the home state of Atiku Abubakar, one of the losing candidates who is challenging Tinubu’s February presidential election victory.

The Niger military junta that seized power last week and ousted president Mohamed Bazoum said on Monday the toppled government had authorised France to carry out strikes at the presidency to try to free Bazoum.

The military junta, which has confined Bazoum to the presidential palace since Wednesday, has previously warned against foreign attempts to extract him, saying it would result in bloodshed and chaos.

Supporters of the junta burned French flags and attacked the French embassy in Niger's capital Niamey on Sunday, drawing tear gas from police. The junta accused France in another statement of shooting at protesters, injuring six.
