Moving roads of the 19th century

The moving electric sidewalk (street of the future) was presented at exhibitions in 1893 and 1900 in Chicago and Paris. It was 3.5 km long and had 9 stops. In November 2011, a cleaner at a museum in the German city of Dortmund destroyed a work of modern art insured for 800,000 euros.

The work, titled "When It Starts to Drip from the Ceiling," was a basin containing what appeared to be sediment from dripping from the ceiling. A cleaning lady saw the dirty basin and carefully wiped it down, thus committing one of the most powerful acts of vandalism.

In February 2014, history repeated itself in Italy. In a museum in Bari, the cleaner threw away a couple of crumpled paper exhibits and also dislodged cookie crumbs from the table, which, as it turned out later, were part of an installation worth 10,000 euros.
