The White Mass

The White Mass has been a Catholic Church tradition in the United States since 1932, coinciding with the origin of what later came to be known as the Catholic Medical Association.

In 1927, Dr. R.A. Rendrick began a Catholic Physicians Guild in Brooklyn by convening physicians and a chaplain for a retreat using the spiritual exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola. ¹

By 1932, a national organization of Catholic physicians was established. Under Rendrick’s leadership, the National Federation of Catholic Physicians Guilds began in NYC as a unification of seven existing guilds. In 1997, the name of the (NFCPG) was changed to the Catholic Medical Association. The White Mass is a byproduct of the NFCPG/CMA.

The White Mass, so named by physicians’ white coats is typically celebrated on the Feast of St. Luke (Oct. 18), the patron saint of physicians. The Mass gathers practitioners of MediSIN/MEDICI-ne under the patronage of St. Luke to ask for blessing upon doctors and nurses.

The Knights of Columbus and the Freemasons (Part Three)

Despite the Knights of Columbus’ open, anti-Masonic¹ pledge located in their oath of the fourth vow,² which, just so happens to be modeled after the Jesuit Order’s extreme oath of induction into the fourth vow.³ There have been many Knights who were also simultaneously Freemasons.⁴ The lapel pin pictured above (which is an amalgam of the KofC symbol with the Masonic logo) was designed for those who were members of both fraternities.
