πŸš€ I Built a Checkers AI Agent That Learns Like a Brain! πŸ€–β™ŸοΈ

Hello everyone! I just built a Checkers AI Agent that learns to play using the NEAT (NeuroEvolution of Augmenting Topologies) algorithm! πŸ§ β™ŸοΈ

After a long time of learning and building, I finally created a Checkers AI Agent that mimics biology using the NEAT algorithm.

This AI doesn’t just play; it learns through self-play and evolves its neural network structure over time, just like a brain. Inspired by AlphaGo, I wanted to explore how AI can mimic biological evolution β€” and watching it get smarter is honestly exciting.

It’s still at a basic level, but seeing it grow and learn on its own makes it incredibly rewarding. You can play against the AI in your browser or train your own models.
It is also open source.
Try it online, check out the code, or contribute!

I really appreciate anyone who wants to contribute and our aim should be reaching the AlphaGo level and anyone interested DM me @benasphy I could add you to contributors

Checkers AI Agent with NEAT.pdf
I've included here some of what I did and also you could find in the readme file of the repo and also https://github.com/benasphy/Checkers_Using_NEAT/blob/master/PROJECT_DOCUMENTATION.md
If you have any project related, personal or advice send it hereπŸ‘‡I'll try my best to answer them.
After Watching AlphaGo Documentary I kinda felt I gotta do something like this and I planned it and take almost a year studying basic concepts to advanced level mainly reading a lot of research papers I did it. It was very annoying and fun moments.

16 and I see a lot of younger than that coders in Ethiopia nowadays and keep it up. Many people would look you as Deluded person, but at the end you gotta show who is Delulu keep it upπŸ’ͺ

Interesting question! Game of Thrones is GOAT without any doubt, but I personally like and My Goat series is Money Heist since all things I've achieved so far is influenced by El Professor characterπŸ˜†I kinda wanted to make that fictional character into reality.

Hmmm..AAU..Computer Science and I honestly don't like going to class, but I'm not saying don't go it's just I'm selfish on time like I don't like giving 30-40 hours per week to those classes than study what I need and want in life.

Take inspiration from Geoffrey Hinton, the "Godfather of AI." He began exploring neural networks in the 1970s, a time when the field was dismissed as a dead end. Despite skepticism and rejection, he persisted, earning his PhD in AI at 31 and making breakthroughs in his 40s that revolutionized the field. His work on backpropagation in 1986 changed AI forever, leading to a Nobel Prize in 2024 at age 77. Whether you're 25 or 55, it’s never too late to start, pivot, or pursue your dreams. Keep learning, stay curious, and take that first stepβ€”your breakthrough could be just around the corner!
