Friends of Russia ask the EU to abandon the idea of confiscating frozen assets of the Russian Federation, - Politico
▪️This position is privately advocated by representatives of China, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. They fear that the confiscation of Russian assets will create a precedent, and they will be next.
▪️“I accept that the Russians could have asked their friends to make this fuss,” said a senior diplomat from a non-EU country.
▪️There are also fears that Moscow will push its allies to attack Western assets in their countries.
▪️The issue of assets will be discussed at the meeting of G7 finance ministers in May. Some countries within the EU also oppose confiscation. In particular, Germany and the European Central Bank.
▪️At the same time, European officials believe that if confiscation does take place, the Russian Federation will be able to challenge it in the courts.
