🇺🇸 U.S. Officially Imposes New 10%–12.5% Tariffs on Goods From 60 Trading Partners

✊ The Trump administration has finalized new tariff measures under Section 301, imposing rates of 10% or 12.5% on most goods imported from 60 economies, which account for approximately 99.4% of total U.S. imports. The stated reason is that these countries have either failed to introduce or effectively enforce bans on imports of goods produced using forced labor.

🔴 Tariff Categories:

🟣 10% tariff: Applied to 17 economies that already have laws, commitments, or trade agreements addressing forced labor, including Canada, Mexico, India, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and Cambodia.
🟣 12.5% tariff: Applied to the remaining economies that have not met the required criteria, including China, Vietnam, Australia, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.
🟣 Flexible treatment based on existing MFN tariff rates: The EU and Taiwan are targeted for a total tariff of around 10%, while Japan, South Korea, and Switzerland are targeted for a total rate of around 12.5%. If the existing MFN tariff is already higher, no additional tariff will be added.
🟣 Exempted goods: Oil and gas, fertilizers, selected food products, automobiles, steel, aluminum, copper, and goods covered under the USMCA agreement between the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

🔈 The tariffs take effect on July 24, 2026, replacing previous tariff measures that had been struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court. The United States says the move is intended to protect supply chains and American workers. However, many trading partners have opposed the measures, arguing that the justification related to forced labor is unconvincing.
