Chip Selloff Spreads from the U.S. to Asia
The semiconductor selloff that began in the U.S. quickly spread across Asia. Nvidia fell around 5%, Sandisk dropped 11%, ASML lost nearly 6%, Japan’s Nikkei declined more than 4%, and South Korea’s KOSPI plunged over 10%, forcing the exchange to temporarily halt trading.
The biggest hit came to Samsung and SK Hynix, the world’s leading AI memory suppliers, with both stocks down roughly 9–10%.
Why the market reacted
Chinese memory maker CXMT has secured at least $8.6 billion in funding and is preparing to significantly expand production. At the same time, China has begun manufacturing its own DUV lithography machines, gradually reducing its reliance on Western semiconductor equipment.
Investors now fear that today’s memory shortage could eventually turn into oversupply, putting pressure on prices and profit margins for Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron, and other chipmakers.
Another concern came from reports involving Nvidia and OpenAI. According to media reports, Nvidia is discussing providing around $250 billion in guarantees to support the construction of OpenAI data centers, along with separate financing of up to $350 billion, which could ultimately be used to purchase Nvidia chips.
The deals have not been finalized, but the market is increasingly worried about a potential circular financing structure, where a chip supplier helps finance a customer that then uses the funds to buy the supplier’s products. That has raised questions about how much of today’s AI infrastructure demand is truly organic.
Against this backdrop, Bitcoin briefly dropped to around $63,000. Markets are also positioning ahead of the upcoming Federal Reserve decision. Expectations for a rate hike have increased, although the base case still remains that rates will stay unchanged.
This week, Microsoft, Meta, Apple, and Amazon are set to report earnings. If AI-related spending continues to outpace revenue growth, the current correction could develop into a much broader selloff across the technology sector.
For now, it’s not the global economy that’s being repriced. It’s the market’s biggest assumption of the past few years: that demand for AI chips will continue growing indefinitely.

Jim Cramer says sell anything related to data centers this morning. You won't regret it.
Can't wait to witness the open bell bounce. 😂

BTC positioning looks off here.
Cumulative Longs & Shorts Delta has jumped to +$498.5M. Traders are loading up on longs, but Whale vs Retail Delta is negative at -0.82.
Whales aren’t backing the move. They may be selling into retail demand.
BTC was rejected around $65,000 and is now trading near $63,750. The bid/ask ratio is still slightly positive, but actual buy pressure is almost flat.
That leaves the market crowded on the long side.
If BTC can’t reclaim $64,500–65,000, these fresh longs could fuel a flush below $63,500. The next key area would be $62,000–62,200.
A clean reclaim of $65,000 kills this setup and puts $66,000–67,000 back in play.
For now, I’d stay cautious. Retail is adding longs while whales step away.

Jim Cramer says he will sell all his Bitcoin due to quantum risks
SPCX and CRCL are both sitting at all-time lows with earnings this week.
SPCX reports on August 4, followed by a major unlock on August 6. The stock is down 52% from its highs, with a $1.4T market cap.
CRCL reports on August 5. It’s down 80% from its highs, with a $15.5B market cap.
Two beaten-down names with major catalysts. Expect volatility.

#TOWNS is attempting to break out of a year-long falling wedge.
A confirmed daily close above the wedge could trigger a much larger reversal. If the breakout holds, the main upside target sits near $0.0135, roughly 5x from current levels.
Still waiting for confirmation.

PUMP keeps outperforming the market.
Up over 60% in the past few weeks while most alts have gone nowhere.
The current long is sitting at roughly $11,500 in unrealized profit, up over 300%.
Still holding.

#XRP is sitting right on the lower boundary of a massive falling wedge.
The $1.05 area is the key level here. If it holds and XRP breaks the upper trendline, I’m looking for a move toward $2.30.
Still waiting for confirmation, but the risk/reward from this zone looks solid.

ZEC at $520.
Still the most convincing performer among the majors.
The Ironwood upgrade went through successfully, putting the unlimited supply concerns to rest. Trust is coming back.
The current narrative is even stronger: crypto’s first AI stress test of this scale. Zcash passed it.
Position update: still holding.

A clean breakout could open the door to a much bigger rally.

BTC just printed a huge spike in anchored CVD on Binance, with aggregated spot CVD confirming the buying.
USD-M OI is rising with it, meaning new longs are entering, not just shorts closing.
Bullish if BTC holds above $65k. If all this buying gets absorbed and price falls back below $64.5k, those late longs become fuel for the downside.

The Chinese are buying gold again.
With their stock market turning volatile, investors have been rotating into gold for two straight weeks.
Gold ETFs recorded roughly $1.5 billion in inflows over the past few days, while gold itself nearly touched $4,300.
Was $4,000 the local bottom?
