“e-Nirog” App to Detect Crop Diseases
With the aim to detect crop diseases and related problems along with finding their remedies, the Indian Institute of Information Technology at Bhagalpur (IIIT-Bhagalpur) and Bihar Agricultural University (BAU) have collaborated to develop an innovative mobile application for the benefit of farmers. It has been christened as ‘e-Nirog’ mobile app.
Unlike the conventional method of detection of plant/crop diseases by using manual observation of the disease symptoms present on parts of plants, the e-Nirog app uses Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The AI-powered app can also determine soil and crop health, besides providing fertilizer and nutrients’ recommendations, monitor weather etc, enabling the farmers to make better decisions and do efficient farming.

फसल रोगों और संबंधित समस्याओं का पता लगाने के साथ-साथ उनका उपचार खोजने के उद्देश्य से, भागलपुर (आईआईआईटी-भागलपुर) में भारतीय सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान और बिहार कृषि विश्वविद्यालय (बीएयू) ने किसानों के लाभ के लिए एक अभिनव मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन विकसित करने के लिए सहयोग किया है। इसे 'ई-निरोग' मोबाइल ऐप का नाम दिया गया है।

Nitish Kumar opens Bihar’s 2nd ethanol unit at Motipur in Muzaffarpur
Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday (06 April, 2023) inaugurated Bihar’s second ethanol plant at Motipur in Muzaffarpur district. The plant has the capacity to produce 110 kilolitre of ethanol per day from maize. It has been developed with an expenditure of Rs 152 crore. The plant is expected to provide employment to at least 700 people.
CM Nitish had inaugurated India’s first ethanol plant at Purnia in May last year. Altogether 17 ethanol-producing units have been approved in Bihar, including one in Purnia with a capacity of 65,000 litre per day.
Bihar government had launched Ethanol Production Promotion Policy in March 2021, making it the first state in the country to have its own ethanol promotion policy under National Policy of Biofuels, 2018. The state ethanol policy has allowed extraction of ethanol from surplus quantities of maize, which was earlier limited only to sugar cane.
According to sources, an ethanol plant at Ara with a capacity of 5 lakh litres per day is ready for inauguration. It will be the second largest ethanol plant in Asia. Besides, works are going on for commissioning of two plants each in Gopalganj and Nalanda districts and one plant at Bhagalpur.

सीएम नीतीश ने पिछले साल मई में पूर्णिया में भारत के पहले इथेनॉल प्लांट का उद्घाटन किया था. बिहार में कुल मिलाकर 17 इथेनॉल उत्पादक इकाइयों को मंजूरी दी गई है, जिसमें पूर्णिया में एक 65,000 लीटर प्रति दिन की क्षमता है।
बिहार सरकार ने मार्च 2021 में इथेनॉल उत्पादन प्रोत्साहन नीति शुरू की थी, जिससे यह जैव ईंधन की राष्ट्रीय नीति, 2018 के तहत अपनी इथेनॉल प्रोत्साहन नीति रखने वाला देश का पहला राज्य बन गया। राज्य इथेनॉल नीति ने मक्का की अधिशेष मात्रा से इथेनॉल के निष्कर्षण की अनुमति दी है, जो पहले केवल गन्ने तक ही सीमित था।

The Mircha rice variety from West Champaran district of Bihar has recently been granted the GI tag.
The grains of this rice are similar in size and shape to black pepper, which is why it is called Mircha or Marcha rice.
Other agriculture and horticulture products from Bihar that have received GI tags include Zardalu mango, Katarni rice of Bhagalpur, Shahi litchi of Muzaffarpur, Magahi paan of Magadh region, and Makhana of Mithila.
बिहार के सुगंधित 'मर्चा धान' को जीआई टैग मिला
बिहार के पश्चिम चंपारण जिले की मिर्चा चावल की किस्म को हाल ही में जीआई टैग प्रदान किया गया है।

MGNREGA: Bihar Ranks 5th in Person-days Generation
In 2022-23, Rajasthan generated 35.61 crore person-days at a total cost of Rs 10,175 crore under the scheme. Rajasthan is followed by Tamil Nadu (33.45 crore), Uttar Pradesh (31.18 crore), Andhra Pradesh (23.96 crore) and Bihar (23.69 crore) in terms of person-days generation, according to MGNREGA MIS report.
Bihar has set a new record by generating 23.69 crore man days, the highest-ever since inception of MGNREGA. In the previous FY2021-22, the state had generated 22.60 crore man days.
This indeed remains a big achievement given the significant drop (19.90%) in terms of man days generation at the national level during the same period.
The state generated 19.32% of SC/ST man days of the total, which is approximately 6% more than 2021-22 (13.41%), indicating that more SC/ST families are getting wages.
National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) is being used to observe attendance of working labourers in MGNREGA. NMMS figures of state (88.51%) are better than the national average (86.91).

बिहार ने 23.69 करोड़ मानव दिवस सृजित करके एक नया कीर्तिमान स्थापित किया है, जो मनरेगा की स्थापना के बाद से अब तक का सर्वाधिक है। पिछले FY2021-22 में, राज्य ने 22.60 करोड़ मानव दिवस उत्पन्न किए थे।

MGNREGA: Bihar Ranks 5th in Person-days Generation
In 2022-23, Rajasthan generated 35.61 crore person-days at a total cost of Rs 10,175 crore under the scheme. Rajasthan is followed by Tamil Nadu (33.45 crore), Uttar Pradesh (31.18 crore), Andhra Pradesh (23.96 crore) and Bihar (23.69 crore) in terms of person-days generation, according to MGNREGA MIS report.
Bihar has set a new record by generating 23.69 crore man days, the highest-ever since inception of MGNREGA. In the previous FY2021-22, the state had generated 22.60 crore man days.
This indeed remains a big achievement given the significant drop (19.90%) in terms of man days generation at the national level during the same period.
The state generated 19.32% of SC/ST man days of the total, which is approximately 6% more than 2021-22 (13.41%), indicating that more SC/ST families are getting wages.
National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) is being used to observe attendance of working labourers in MGNREGA. NMMS figures of state (88.51%) are better than the national average (86.91).

बिहार ने 23.69 करोड़ मानव दिवस सृजित करके एक नया कीर्तिमान स्थापित किया है, जो मनरेगा की स्थापना के बाद से अब तक का सर्वाधिक है। पिछले FY2021-22 में, राज्य ने 22.60 करोड़ मानव दिवस उत्पन्न किए थे।
इसी अवधि के दौरान राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर मानव दिवस उत्पादन के संदर्भ में महत्वपूर्ण गिरावट (19.90%) को देखते हुए यह वास्तव में एक बड़ी उपलब्धि है।
राज्य ने कुल अनुसूचित जाति/अनुसूचित जनजाति के श्रम दिवसों का 19.32% उत्पन्न किया, जो कि 2021-22 (13.41%) से लगभग 6% अधिक है, यह दर्शाता है कि अधिक अनुसूचित जाति/अनुसूचित जनजाति के परिवारों को मजदूरी मिल रही है।

Performance of Bihar's VTR falls to ‘good’ category
The rating of Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in the latest tiger census report released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday plunged from “very good” to “good” category in management effectiveness evaluation (MEE) system.
VTR, the only tiger reserve in Bihar, has scored 77.97% in the MEE, putting it at 38th position among the 51 tiger reserves assessed in the latest census report, titled ‘Status of Tigers 2022’.
The VTR is among only the three tiger reserves in the country whose performance has gone down. The other two tiger reserves include Nameri in Assam and Udanti-Sitanadi in Chhattisgarh.
This was the fifth cycle of MEE under the nationwide tiger estimation exercise in India. Altogether 28 tiger reserves were assessed in the first cycle in 2006, 39 in 2010, 43 in 2014, 50 in 2018 and 51 in 2022.
The rating of VTR under MEE was “fair” in 2006 and 2010 and “very good” in 2014 and 2018.
The state-wide tiger numbers under the 2022 census are not released yet.
