'Arsenic major cause of gallbladder cancer in Bihar'

A study jointly conducted by researchers and scientists from Bihar, New Delhi, Pune, University of Tokyo and University of Technology, Delft, the Netherlands and Canada found that arsenic is the major causative agent for gallbladder cancer (GBC) disease in Bihar.

The paper, published in the UK-based nature journal 'Scientific Reports' on March 14, found that GBC is prevalent in the Gangetic plains of Bihar, where the arsenic contamination in the exposed population is very high.

There is an urgent need to control the GBC disease burden by developing policies and guidelines that will alleviate arsenic exposure to the impacted populations.

530 sensors soon to monitor real-time air quality in Bihar

The state government, in collaboration with IIT-Kanpur, will install 530 air sensors for real-time air quality monitoring in Bihar. Currently, there are only 35 air sensors in Bihar.

Also, BSPCB and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 'State Level Air Pollution Source Apportionment Study' on this occasion. The study aims at accurately measuring city emissions and forecast, the sources and levels of pollution approximately three days in advance.

Dense sensor network (1400 nodes) in Bihar will be integrated with micro-satellite imagery using Machine Learning plus Artificial Intelligence (AI) model to explore their potential in predicting Particulate Matter (PM).

बिहार में रीयल टाइम वायु गुणवत्ता की निगरानी के लिए जल्द ही 530 सेंसर

राज्य सरकार, आईआईटी-कानपुर के सहयोग से, बिहार में वास्तविक समय की वायु गुणवत्ता निगरानी के लिए 530 एयर सेंसर स्थापित करेगी। वर्तमान में बिहार में केवल 35 एयर सेंसर हैं।

साथ ही, BSPCB और बनारस हिंदू विश्वविद्यालय (BHU) ने इस अवसर पर 'राज्य स्तरीय वायु प्रदूषण स्रोत प्रभाजन अध्ययन' पर एक समझौता ज्ञापन (MoU) पर हस्ताक्षर किए। अध्ययन का उद्देश्य शहर के उत्सर्जन और पूर्वानुमान, प्रदूषण के स्रोतों और स्तरों को लगभग तीन दिन पहले सटीक रूप से मापना है।

पार्टिकुलेट मैटर (पीएम) की भविष्यवाणी करने में उनकी क्षमता का पता लगाने के लिए मशीन लर्निंग प्लस आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस (एआई) मॉडल का उपयोग करके बिहार में घने सेंसर नेटवर्क (1400 नोड्स) को माइक्रो-सैटेलाइट इमेजरी के साथ एकीकृत किया जाएगा।

जल-जीवन-हरियाली मिशन के लिए ई-गवर्नेंस अवार्ड

राज्य सरकार के महत्वाकांक्षी जल-जीवन-हरियाली अभियान को शनिवार (25 मार्च, 2023) को नई दिल्ली में आयोजित 20वें सीएसआई-एसआईजी ई-गवर्नेंस अवार्ड समारोह में ई-गवर्नेंस के लिए 'उत्कृष्टता का पुरस्कार' मिला।

जलवायु परिवर्तन के प्रतिकूल प्रभावों से निपटने और पर्यावरण की रक्षा के लिए 2019 में सीएम नीतीश कुमार द्वारा अभियान की शुरुआत की गई थी।

अभियान में 11 लक्षित पहलें हैं जिन्हें व्यवहार में लाया जा रहा है, जैसे कि छत पर वर्षा जल संचयन, बड़े पैमाने पर वनीकरण, जैविक खेती को बढ़ावा देना और सौर ऊर्जा।

बिहार पर्यावरण संरक्षण और जलवायु परिवर्तन की चुनौतियों को लक्षित करने वाला एक व्यापक राज्यव्यापी अभियान शुरू करने वाला पहला राज्य है। राज्य सरकार ने अभियान को 2025 तक बढ़ा दिया है।

जल-जीवन-हरियाली अभियान के तहत, राज्य भर में अब तक लगभग 30,000 सार्वजनिक तालाबों, पोखरों और कुओं को अतिक्रमण मुक्त किया गया है, और 68,000 से अधिक सार्वजनिक जल संचयन संरचनाओं का कायाकल्प किया गया है।

भूजल स्तर को बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से अभियान के तहत सार्वजनिक कुओं और हैंडपंपों के पास लगभग 1.5 लाख सोख्ता गड्ढों का निर्माण किया गया है।

नर्सरी का निर्माण और बड़े पैमाने पर वनीकरण, जैविक खेती और सूक्ष्म सिंचाई को बढ़ावा देना, सौर पैनलों की स्थापना और सार्वजनिक भवनों में वर्षा जल संचयन संरचनाएं इस अभियान की कुछ प्रमुख विशेषताएं हैं।

E-governance award for Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali mission

The state government's ambitious Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan received the 'award of excellence' for e-governance in the 20th CSI-SIG e-Governance Awards ceremony held in New Delhi on Saturday (25 March, 2023).

The campaign was launched by CM Nitish Kumar in 2019 to combat the adverse effects of climate change and protect the environment.

The campaign has 11 target initiatives that are being put into practice, such as rooftop rainwater harvesting, massive afforestation, promotion of organic farming, and solar energy.

Bihar is the first state to launch a comprehensive state-wide campaign targeting the challenges of environmental protection and climate change. The state government has extended the campaign till 2025.

Under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan, about 30,000 public ponds, puddles, and dug wells have been made encroachment free across the state so far, and more than 68,000 public water harvesting structures have been rejuvenated.

With the objective to increase the groundwater level, approximately 1.5 lakh soak pits have been constructed near public wells and hand pumps under the campaign.

Creation of nurseries and massive afforestation, promotion of organic farming and micro irrigation, installation of solar panels and rainwater harvesting structures in public buildings are some of the salient features of this Abhiyan.

टीबी के मामलों में गिरावट के लिए बिहार के पांच जिलों को सम्मानित किया गया

2015 बेसलाइन के संबंध में तपेदिक के मामलों में गिरावट के लिए बिहार के पांच जिलों को उप-राष्ट्रीय प्रमाणन प्राप्त हुआ। उन्हें विश्व टीबी दिवस के अवसर पर शुक्रवार को वाराणसी में एक समारोह में सम्मानित किया गया।

2025 तक टीबी मुक्त भारत के लक्ष्य की ओर बढ़ने के लिए देश के उन 62 जिलों में से पांच की सराहना की गई।

पांच जिलों में मुजफ्फरपुर और समस्तीपुर में 60% की गिरावट के साथ सोना और सीवान में 40% की गिरावट के साथ चांदी रही। सारण और पूर्णिया ने 40 फीसदी की गिरावट के साथ कांस्य पदक हासिल किया।

2022-23 में बिहार में 1.61 लाख अधिसूचित टीबी मामले थे।

Five districts from Bihar awarded for fall in TB cases

Five districts from Bihar received subnational certification for decline in tuberculosis cases with respect to 2015 baseline. They were awarded at a function in Varanasi on Friday on the occasion of World TB Day.

The five were among the 62 districts from the country applauded for moving towards the aim of TB free India by 2025.

Among the five districts, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur bagged gold for 60% decline and Siwan bagged silver for 40% decline. Saran and Purnia bagged bronze for 40% decline.

There were 1.61 lakh notified TB cases in Bihar in 2022-23.

As Bihar readies for caste survey, statisticians worry about data

With the second phase of Bihar’s caste-based survey set to begin from April 15, training of field enumerators is on in full-swing.

The mobile app to be used in the second phase – Bijaga (Bihar Jaati Adharit Ganana) – is ready, with 17 columns and a list of 214 caste names. Statisticians are, however, worried about securing the integrity of the data they are supposed to collect, after being directed not to insist on any kind of verification documents.

Double verification

Data needs to be collected on both the mobile app and the physical forms.

Information collected

Both the physical form for this part of the survey and the form on the mobile app have the same columns that provide for collecting personal details of residents, including caste name and religion along with a slew of socio-economic indicators.

To check the integrity of the data enumerators on the ground will be accompanied by local Anganwadi workers and social workers, who will likely be able to confirm the residents’ basic information like caste location.
