Ganga Jal Apoorti Yojana or the Ganga water supply scheme (GWSS)
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar will dedicate the ambitious Ganga Jal Apoorti Yojana or the Ganga water supply scheme (GWSS) under the state’s Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali initiative to the people at Rajgir on November 27 and at Gaya and Bodh Gaya on November 28.
The first phase of the GWSS scheme involving Gaya, Bodh Gaya and Rajgir has been completed in a record time of less than three years despite disruptions caused by Covid-19 pandemic, while the second phase covering Nawada district would be completed by 2023. The estimated cost of the project to ensure drinking water to over 40 lakh population in the water-alarmed southern part of the state is ₹4,500 crore. The project, earlier known as Ganga water lift project, was approved in December 2019 and the state Cabinet had sanctioned a budget of ₹2,692 crore.
It is a one-of-its-kind project in the country to pump surplus floodwater of river Ganga to the water-stressed cities for drinking purpose through a 191-km pipeline.

गया, बोधगया और राजगीर को शामिल करते हुए GWSS योजना का पहला चरण कोविड-19 महामारी के कारण हुए व्यवधानों के बावजूद तीन साल से भी कम समय के रिकॉर्ड समय में पूरा किया गया है, जबकि नवादा जिले को कवर करने वाला दूसरा चरण 2023 तक पूरा हो जाएगा। अनुमानित राज्य के जल-संकटग्रस्त दक्षिणी भाग में 40 लाख से अधिक आबादी को पेयजल सुनिश्चित करने के लिए परियोजना की लागत ₹4,500 करोड़ है। परियोजना, जिसे पहले गंगा जल लिफ्ट परियोजना के रूप में जाना जाता था, को दिसंबर 2019 में मंजूरी दी गई थी और राज्य मंत्रिमंडल ने 2,692 करोड़ रुपये के बजट को मंजूरी दी थी।
