Extension of Caste Census Deadline
The Bihar cabinet decided to extend the deadline for completing the exercise of caste-based headcount in the state by three months, to May 2023.
The state government will spend ₹500 crore from its contingency fund for the exercise.
The cabinet has also approved a budgetary allocation of ₹2.44 crore for developing a site and an app for the headcount. The general administration department (GAD) is the nodal authority for the survey.
The state’s bicameral legislature passed two unanimous resolutions, in 2018 and 2019, in favour of a caste-based count.
जाति जनगणना की समय सीमा का विस्तार
बिहार कैबिनेट ने राज्य में जाति-आधारित हेडकाउंट की कवायद को पूरा करने की समय सीमा को तीन महीने बढ़ाकर मई 2023 करने का फैसला किया।
राज्य सरकार इस अभ्यास के लिए अपने आकस्मिक कोष से ₹500 करोड़ खर्च करेगी।
कैबिनेट ने हेडकाउंट के लिए एक साइट और एक ऐप विकसित करने के लिए 2.44 करोड़ रुपये के बजटीय आवंटन को भी मंजूरी दी है। सामान्य प्रशासन विभाग (जीएडी) सर्वेक्षण के लिए नोडल प्राधिकरण है।

Ganga Jal Apoorti Yojana or the Ganga water supply scheme (GWSS)
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar will dedicate the ambitious Ganga Jal Apoorti Yojana or the Ganga water supply scheme (GWSS) under the state’s Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali initiative to the people at Rajgir on November 27 and at Gaya and Bodh Gaya on November 28.
The first phase of the GWSS scheme involving Gaya, Bodh Gaya and Rajgir has been completed in a record time of less than three years despite disruptions caused by Covid-19 pandemic, while the second phase covering Nawada district would be completed by 2023. The estimated cost of the project to ensure drinking water to over 40 lakh population in the water-alarmed southern part of the state is ₹4,500 crore. The project, earlier known as Ganga water lift project, was approved in December 2019 and the state Cabinet had sanctioned a budget of ₹2,692 crore.
It is a one-of-its-kind project in the country to pump surplus floodwater of river Ganga to the water-stressed cities for drinking purpose through a 191-km pipeline.
