The DOJ has announced they are pursuing ‘conspiracy’ and ‘sedition’ charges for some involved in the DC Capitol break-in. Both of these charges been used to repress marginalized communities and radicals.

‘Sedition’ was famously used en mass against anarchists and leftists in the 1900s and criminalized immigrant communities to stoke the paranoia around such groups. ‘Sedition’ has broadly fallen out of use, which makes building precedent for it’s use all the more dangerous.

‘Conspiracy’ basically creates precedent for ‘thought crime’ and ‘guilty by association.’ This charge loosens evidentiary rules to such an extent that research into a kind of crime can be used as evidence of intent. It also gives charges to all the members of a loosely defined group even if only one person took overt action. If a person does anything that helped said overt action takes place they can also face charges even if they didn’t know about the conspiracy with one of the only outs being if you did know about the conspiracy and snitched.

All this is to say fuck the police state, we protect us. Autonomous research and action is what shattered the Alt-Right, and its what will stop future fascist street mobilization and organization without empowering the state to justify their own exclusionary nationalisms and attacks on marginalized groups such as “Black Identity Extremists” which is what they call many ‘BLM’ radicals in their reports.
