This is unrelated to BLM but as part of planning for a better future I find it important to create new discussions regarding stuff we've normalized in society.

I know that we have many teachers and educators in our followers. I implore you to understand the important of consent and consensual behavior in your children and the people you educate.

It's come to my attention many teachers are holding grades and extra credit hostage in exchange for a student to keep their cameras on in virtual classes. They do this no matter the comfort level or the discomfort expressed by the student. No matter how much the student has shown that they don't consent to this.

It's part of our job as educators to let people from a young age know that their feelings and comfort levels matter and that we the adults will respect that. Not force them to do what we want them to do. Not use our power and authority over them to create discomfort.

I hope this sparks a conversation between you and your co-workers and students and we work for a better future together.

Let's give a strong voice to the young, not take it away from them.
