What we know
- The victim was shot in the chest at around 8:46 pm Pacific time, and died at the scene
- The victim appears to have been a white man, and was reportedly wearing a shirt and hat with the logo of the far-right Patriot Prayer group
- The shooting comes after Trump supporters in downtown Portland unleashed pepper spray and paintballs on protesters and journalists, and amid clashes between supporters of the president and protesters
- Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf told ABC Sunday morning that “all options continue to be on the table” in terms of federal action in Portland

What we don’t know:
- The identity of the victim
- The identity of the shooter. Portland police say that “no suspect information is being released at his time,” and no arrests have been made
- The shooter’s motive
- The weapon used by the shooter

After gathering more evidence I decided to change my statement. I still say I am against the shooting of civilians. However what is not clear is whether this was self defense. Another video showed more clearly the mace being sprayed followed by shots both very rapidly and it's not clear whether the gun was pulled first or the mace was. If this was in self defense I view this to be more ethical. Macing someone shouldnt result in an execution and we should view every shooting critically and with sensitivity. People shouldn't have to die. But the reality is last night very well might not be the last of these. And just like there are Columbine copycats, I still fear that individuals will try to copy the acts of Kyle Rittenhouse. Part of being an ethical journalist is saying you were wrong about some information and you do your best to correct it. Regardless folks should not be deputized to kill as it only will escalate the situations further for us and put folk who arent trying to fight a battle into harms way. The last thing we should be doing is inspiring a warmongering right wing. We are striking against them. A strike should not escalate to a battle. But things only stay peaceful if our enemies have empathy and a conscious. Right now it doesn't appear that way. We should all take time to continue and reflect on this as more information still waits to come out.

We have amazing medics on the ground putting their lives on the line to help any person down. That's what medics do. They cross political lines to save peoples lives. They tried to last night in Portland after a member of Patriot Prayer was shot. He was alive still when they got to him. That's when police pushed them away from the victim and prevented our on the ground medics from helping. Police even kicked away the first aid supplies that could have potentially saved his life. Police shined a light in his eyes and ignored offering medical attention to the man. Street medics had occlusive barriers and tools to help him until the emt arrived. Instead police let him lay there to die to preserve the evidence of the scene. Police are not trained to save lives. Police are trained to protect evidence. It was Black Lives Matter medics who tried to save him. Any threat of war from the right is warmongering and illegitimate and it is threats of terror. Waging war on and murdering civilians is a war crime. War is a dreadful and painful experience civilians do not want to have. We are calling for massive demilitarization of our nations police and militias. We do not want a war with anybody. We are demanding systemic change, not more black lives taken away. Black Lives Matter!

"According to Alexander Reid Ross, an academic who researches far-right violence, vigilantes have assaulted protesters at least sixty-four times, driven cars into protesters at least thirty-nine times, and shot at protesters at least nine times — and that’s just counting the violence that occurred since May.

Despite the violence, police have not cracked down on right-wing counterprotesters."

Starting this week in Pennsylvania, the eviction moratorium is over. Those who lose their cases in court will be able to be evicted starting September 8th. The state of Pennsylvania has yet to extend the moratorium, and has instead elected so far through inaction to double the United States homeless population from 500k people to 1 million. The state of Pennsylvania has elected through inaction to create the highest concentration of homelessness in our nation. The city of Philadelphia has chosen to evict homeless encampments on September 9th. This is what economic injustice looks like in our state everyone.
Philadelphia residents received an extended moratorium until next year. But they didnt include the homeless encampments. Despite CDC guidelines being against evicting encampments, the folks on the ground have been ordered in court to be evicted, and will be evicted on September 9th by notice. We are not going to just sit around and be told to scurry off and die at the hands of eviction in the State of Pennsylvania. We will stand up and fight to stop all evictions. We will sit in the housing authorities. We will mass squat in government owned homes. We will not accept a death sentence from our city government. We will work together to ensure every person has a shelter, has a home, has food and clean water. We will build mutual aid. We will stand up and fight for those who have the least amount of protections in our nation. Because all of us are 1 bad day from being homeless ourselves.
