this is the vehicle driven by the suspect who murdered a demonstrator in Portland
After further review of video evidence, the suspect possibly could be this individual as there was some visible smoke coming from their direction in the video. Regardless, it is important that we document every gunshot at demonstrations so that innocent folks do not get punished for something they are not involved in, and so we can collectively stand against an escalation to live rounds being used on civilian demonstrators.
Statement from one of the admins:

So far the news is coming that a protester has shot and killed someone on the far right.

I'm going to be honest with you all. I don't think any of us should support or celebrate this. We don't have the details yet, but as a leftist I don't believe in escalation in any case other than immediate self defense. I know sometimes it feels hard to not be happy that someone who truly hates us for asking for equality and justice has died. But we should go above and beyond that.

So I'm not going to celebrate a fascist being killed tonight if it wasn't done in immediate self defense. But I'm also not going to condemn people who do feel happy about this. We've not had the same life experiences and I really can't tell you how you should feel about it. Just sharing my own feelings.

We should work to strive to work for a society where we the people are not cogs in the machine for someone else's fantasy. Where there are no leaders telling us what to do.

This week has been a sad week. Please stay safe everyone. Love you all 🖤

#DC In respects to what happened tonight in Portland, and to take some serious time for self reflection, we will be silent for the rest of the night. We do not support killing civilians. These next few days we will be working on resources for victims of shootings.

What we know
- The victim was shot in the chest at around 8:46 pm Pacific time, and died at the scene
- The victim appears to have been a white man, and was reportedly wearing a shirt and hat with the logo of the far-right Patriot Prayer group
- The shooting comes after Trump supporters in downtown Portland unleashed pepper spray and paintballs on protesters and journalists, and amid clashes between supporters of the president and protesters
- Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf told ABC Sunday morning that “all options continue to be on the table” in terms of federal action in Portland

What we don’t know:
- The identity of the victim
- The identity of the shooter. Portland police say that “no suspect information is being released at his time,” and no arrests have been made
- The shooter’s motive
- The weapon used by the shooter

After gathering more evidence I decided to change my statement. I still say I am against the shooting of civilians. However what is not clear is whether this was self defense. Another video showed more clearly the mace being sprayed followed by shots both very rapidly and it's not clear whether the gun was pulled first or the mace was. If this was in self defense I view this to be more ethical. Macing someone shouldnt result in an execution and we should view every shooting critically and with sensitivity. People shouldn't have to die. But the reality is last night very well might not be the last of these. And just like there are Columbine copycats, I still fear that individuals will try to copy the acts of Kyle Rittenhouse. Part of being an ethical journalist is saying you were wrong about some information and you do your best to correct it. Regardless folks should not be deputized to kill as it only will escalate the situations further for us and put folk who arent trying to fight a battle into harms way. The last thing we should be doing is inspiring a warmongering right wing. We are striking against them. A strike should not escalate to a battle. But things only stay peaceful if our enemies have empathy and a conscious. Right now it doesn't appear that way. We should all take time to continue and reflect on this as more information still waits to come out.
