An extremely heavy-handed violent authoritarian lockdown is underway all over Belarus right now, the night after national elections which saw dicatator Alexander Lukashenko reelected by an extremely wide margin, according to official numbers just released. The people don't believe these numbers and are out in the streets tonight.
Teargas has been deployed in several cities, huge amounts of heavy military equipment including tanks have been brought into the capitol, Minsk, where roadblocks prohibit any leaving or entering the city. Reports of mass detentions and arrests are starting to flow in, but the night is only getting started there.
Internet and television blackouts are rolling across the country, so documentation is scarce. One source of up to date news is an independent blogger's telegram channel: @nexta_live.
