Today the Chicago Civilian Office of Police Accountability released footage from body worn police cameras and home surveillance cameras documenting the police murder of 22 year old Anthony Alvarez. He was running from police on foot and police shot him in the back multiple times.

Chicago Police murdered Anthony Alvarez only three days after they killed another Latinx youth, 13 year-old Adam Toledo.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot predictably calls on residents to remain “peaceful” in the face of repeated execution of our city’s Latinx youth and suggests that reforms to traffic stops and foot chases could prevent further tragedies. Reform serves only to extend the existence of police, assert their legitimacy, extend their reach into public and private life, and funnel more resources into police departments. Police will murder as long as they are allowed to exist.
