Q: I deleted some old cluster articles to "clean up." Now the whole cluster dropped. Why?

Short answer: you removed nodes from your link graph — the deleted pages were holding internal links and topical breadth that the surviving pages depended on.

Every page in a cluster contributes coverage and passes link equity to its neighbors and the pillar. Delete a few without redirecting, and you create broken links, lost coverage of subtopics, and a sudden gap in the topic you'd told Google you covered.

In practice:
— Before deleting, check each page's internal inlinks and any traffic/rankings it holds.
— If a page is genuinely redundant, 301-redirect it to the closest relevant page and update internal links pointing at it.
— If it covers a unique subtopic, improve it instead of deleting it.

Pruning can help quality, but only when you redirect and re-link, not when you just remove.

— одна главная страница отвечает на базовый интент;
— к ней ведут материалы по смежным вопросам;
— каждый текст усиливает semantic relevance, а не дублирует соседний;

Got a question? Send it in.

Google выпустил Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash

Q: I keep adding pages to my biggest cluster, but rankings have plateaued. More content should mean more authority?

Short answer: not when you're adding redundant pages instead of filling actual gaps — past a point, more near-duplicate coverage adds dilution, not authority.

Once your cluster covers the topic well, the next ten "me too" articles overlap existing pages, compete for the same intents, and spread internal links thinner. The growth lever is no longer volume — it's coverage of what's still missing.

In practice:
— Run a gap analysis: list the subtopics and questions top competitors cover that you don't.
— Build pages for the genuine gaps, not more angles on what's already covered.
— Strengthen and consolidate existing pages instead of multiplying them.

The shift: early on, authority scales with coverage; later, it scales with depth and uniqueness. If adding pages stopped working, you've likely already covered the topic — now improve, don't inflate.

Q: My fitness cluster links out to my finance pages because they're on the same site. Is cross-linking everything good?

Short answer: no — linking across unrelated topics blurs your topical signals and tells search engines your fitness pages are partly about finance, which weakens both.

Internal links pass topical context, not just authority. A relevant in-topic link reinforces what a page is about; an off-topic one muddies it. Wiring your whole site together regardless of subject is a common "more links must be better" mistake.

In practice:
— Keep internal links within the topic cluster they belong to.
— Cross-topic linking is fine only when there's a genuine, useful connection a reader would want (rare across fitness and finance).
— Audit your anchor and target pairs: does this link make the topic clearer or fuzzier?

The principle: link for relevance, not for link count. A tight, on-topic link graph beats a dense, scattered one.

Q: Should I publish the pillar page first, or the cluster posts first?

Short answer: publish 3-4 cluster posts first, then the pillar — unless you're targeting a head term with real volume, where the order flips.

The pillar is a hub that links down to supporting posts. If it ships before any clusters exist, it links to nothing and Google sees a thin overview with no depth underneath it. Cluster-first means by the time the pillar goes live, it already has real pages to point at.

In practice: write clusters around the specific questions (long-tail, lower competition), let them get indexed, then build the pillar as the page that ties them together and absorbs the broad term. Exception: if the head keyword is genuinely winnable fast, ship a thin pillar early to claim the URL, then backfill clusters within two weeks.
