It is my humble request to all brothers: with Ramadan approaching, please try to make things easier for your womenfolk by offering a helping hand in the kitchen or by being content with simpler meals, so that they too can focus on worshipping Allah to the best of their ability.

Yes, there is immense reward in preparing and serving food for our menfolk, Alhamdulillāh. But remember that helping and making things easier for your women is also a means for you to earn reward.

We do not know whether we will be granted another Ramadan, so let this Ramadan not pass us by while we are distracted by worldly routines and unnecessary burdens.

Encourage your wives, mothers and sisters to dedicate more time to worship, reflection and seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.
Support them and appreciate their efforts, sacrifices and the hard work they put in, especially in this blessed month.

BarakAllahu feekum.

Allah Ta’ala said,

"Establish the prayer from after sunset until dark and (establish the Fajr prayer). Indeed, the Fajr prayer is witnessed (by the angels)." (Qs. Al-Isra': 78)

May Allah always give guidance to all of us, especially men, to be able to perform fajr prayers in congregation at the mosque.

It was reported by Ibn Abī ʿl-Dunyā in his book “al-Tawakkul” from Muʿāwiyyah b. Qurrah:

ʿUmar Ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (may Allah be pleased with him) was in the presence of some people from Yemen (who did not want to work),

And he asked them: “Who are you?”

They said: “We are the mutawakkilūn (ie: those who put their trust in Allah).”

So ʿUmar said: “Rather, you are the muttakilūn (those who expect others to feed them)! And as for al-mutawakkil, he first throws the seeds into the earth (ie: as labour) and then depends on Allah the Mighty and Majestic (to provide for him).”

Chapter on having Sexual Intercourse in the Daytime of Ramadan - Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Aziz ibn Baaz

Is your loyalty towards Allaah or the people?

Muaawiyah رضي الله عنه wrote to the mother of the believers, Aaishah رضي الله عنها, asking her to write to him some advice but not making it lengthy.

“Assalaamu Alaik. To proceed… I heard the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم saying,

❝Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allaah while the people are displeased; then Allaah will protect him from the troubles caused by the people. And whosoever seeks the pleasure of the people while displeasing Allaah; then Allaah will leave his matter for the people (i.e. Allaah will not protect him from the harms of the people)❞
Wassalaamu Alaik.”

Narrated Al-Ja'd ad-Damri:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "He who leaves the Friday prayer (continuously) for three Friday on account of slackness, Allah will print a stamp on his heart."

We are quickly approaching 40 days until Ramadan, and the Prophet used to say:

[إقرأِ القرآنَ في أربعينَ]

"Complete the Qur’an in forty days."

[Sahih al-Jami’ #1154]

al-Haafidh ibn Kathir commented on this by saying:

[قال إسحاق بن راهويه وغيره : يكره لرجل أن يمر عليه أربعون يوما لا يقرأ فيها القرآن ، كما أنه يكره له أن يقرأ في أقل من ثلاثة أيام]

Ishaq ibn Rahawayh and others said: it is disliked for a man to let forty days pass by him without completing a reading of the Qur'an, just as it is disliked for him to complete it in less than three days.

[Tafsir ibn Kathir 1/73]

If you are not in the habit of completing the Qur'an in a month - as many of us will try to do during Ramadan - this 40 day schedule can be a great way to prepare. InshaAllaah those who prepare before Ramadan will be able to get more out of Ramadan when it arrives - may Allah enable us all to reach it.
One of the most powerful lessons from Surah Yusuf is that betrayal, false accusations, and abandonment cannot truly harm you when Allah is protecting you.

Prophet Yusuf (AS) was betrayed by his own brothers, thrown into a well, sold as a slave, and later imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Yet through every trial, he remained patient. He guarded his character. He kept his trust in Allah firm and unshaken.

People forgot him. Allah never did.

From the darkness of a well to the authority of a palace, and Yusuf (AS) became Aziz-e-Misr a position of great authority and honor in Egypt. His journey is a living example of tawakkul. What looked like humiliation was preparation. What felt like isolation was elevation in disguise.

The message is simple and deeply comforting:
Even if those closest to you hurt you, even if you find yourself alone in the darkest place, Allah’s plan will always be greater than their plot. With sabr, tawakkul, and sincere faith, He opens doors in ways you never expect and raises you in ways no one can block.

When Allah is with you, no well is too deep, no prison too tight, and no delay too long.
Imam Ahmad رحمه الله said:

“Illnesses are a [form of purification [from sins]!”

Forgive and keep moving...

The Prophet ﷺ said:
❝The most perfect believer in respect of faith is he who is best of them in manners.❞
📚[Sunan Abu Dawood (4682) and graded as "Hasan" by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

🎓 Shaikh al-Sa`dee said:
❝Whoever hates you, has enmity towards you, and boycotts you, then you should treat him exactly the opposite of that, so that you can earn the reward and reach this virtuous manners and ethics, and to quickly provide comfort to your heart, and to reduce the feeling of stress - of seeking revenge - from within you. Rather, by this you can change enmity into friendship, and hatred into love...*[1]

Forgive what emanates from them for the sake of Allaah. Whoever forgives the slaves of Allaah, Allaah will forgive him; whoever pardons them, Allaah will pardon him... For the reward is of the same nature as the deed.❞

📑 Note:
*[1] As Allaah تعالى said:

{The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allaah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then Verily! He, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend.}

❝Oldest trick in the book? Shaytan stirs drama between people right before Ramadan that they carry into the sacred month. Happens every single year, yet people still fall for it, ruining their Ramadan before it even starts. Will you?❞

Advice for those who feel they have lost barakah (blessings) in their time:

One of the Salaf once said, “The more I increased my portion of the Qur’an, the more barakah I found in my time. I continued increasing until my daily portion reached ten juz.”

Ibrahim ibn Abdul Wahid al-Maqdisi (d. 614 H) advised Al-Diya al-Maqdisi (d. 619 H) when the latter wanted to go seek knowledge, “Read the Qur’an abundantly and do not abandon it, for the ease of achieving what you seek will be in proportion to how much you read.”

Al-Diya al-Maqdisi later testified, “I saw this to be true and experienced it often. Whenever I read abundantly, I found ease in hearing and writing down hadith extensively. And whenever I did not read, things became difficult for me.”

Key Lesson: Dedication to the Qur’an brings barakah to one’s time and endeavors. This serves as a reminder that spending time with the Qur’an is intertwined with worldly outcomes, and prioritizing the Qur’an can lead to greater clarity, productivity and success.

🍁The Authentic Du'a for Breaking the Fast:

Upon the authority of Marwaan Ibn Saalim who narrates from Ibn Umar who said:

🍀❝The Messenger of Allah [ﷺ] when he broke his fast he would say:

ذَهَـبَ الظَّمَـأُ، وَابْتَلَّـتِ العُـروق، وَثَبَـتَ الأجْـرُ إِنْ شـاءَ الله

The thirst has gone, the veins are moist, and the reward is established In Shā Allāh.❞

Indeed, I am for you a blessed Salaf.”

Random Ramadan fiqh notes:

1. Sickness that prevents you from fasting is in degrees:

A. That which is impossible to fast with because it could lead to death or serious damage , you must COMPULSORILY break your fast and pay back later.

"Whosoever amongst you is sick or on a journey, let him make up for it some other days"

B. That which is impossible to fast with because it could lead to death pr serious damage but this sickness or illness is INCURABLE. This individual does not fast , he or she gives fidayh i.e. feeds a POOR person in lieu of the days of missed fasting.

C. That which would cause great discomfort , pain or delay healing, it is encouraged to break the fast.

D. The very old, such that fasting becomes a difficulty should also do fidyah.

2. The view that the pregnant woman and the breastfeeding woman do the fidyah and do not need to pay back their missed days of fasting if they have legit fear for themselves or their fetus/baby is a minority view expressed by Ibn Abbas and Ibn Umar. It had gained popularity particularly amongst Shaykh Albani leaning Salafis. This is also the view I find more convincing for now.

A. Note that a woman having lochia ( bleeding as a result of childbirth or miscarriage) doesn't do fidyah even if she's breastfeeding. This is because lochia, as well as menses, are restrictions to the obligation of fasting. She has to pay back the missed days of fasting.

B. If you've missed 10 years of fasting, having knowledge of the obligation, you have to pay them back. You may do so gradually. May Allah make it easy for you.

3. If you're doing fidyah and it's difficult to find POOR people to feed, reach out to some of our sisters who feed the poor in Ramadan. Those doing this should also know that fidyah is solely meant for the poor. It is not a communal iftar or iftar dinner or whatever you call it.

4. You are allowed to use menses preventing drugs so as to complete the entire days of Ramadan , IF AND ONLY IF , your doctor says it's ok for you.

May this not be our last Ramadan.
Narrated Abu Huraira

Allah's Apostle said, The example of a miser and a generous person is like that of two persons wearing iron cloaks from the breast upto the neck When the generous person spends, the iron cloak enlarges and spread over his skin so much so that it covers his fingertips and obliterates his tracks.

As for the miser, as soon as he thinks of spending every ring of the iron cloak sticks to its place (against his body) and he tries to expand it, but it does not expand. The Prophet pointed with his hand towards his throat.

Three Men Trapped in a Cave
Three Men Trapped in a Cave‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar reported that the Messenger (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

Three men of a people before you, were on a journey when they were overtaken by a storm and therefore they took shelter in a cave. A rock slipped down from the mountain and blocked the exit from cave.

One of them said:
"The only way for deliverance left is to beseech Allah in the name of some virtuous deed."

Thereupon one of them supplicated,

"O Lord, my parents were very old, and I used to offer them their nightly drink of milk before my children and the other members of the family. One day I went astray far away in search of green trees and could return only after my parent had gone to sleep. When I had milked the animals and brought their nightly drink to them. They were fast asleep, but I did not like to disturb them, nor would give any part of the milk to my children and other members of the family till after my parents had their drink. Thus, with the vessel in hand, I awaited their awakening till the flush of dawn, while the children cried out of hunger at my feet. When they woke up, they had their drink. O Lord, if I did this thing seeking only your pleasure, then do relieve us of the distress wrought upon us by this rock."
Thereupon, the rock moved a little but not enough to let them pass out.

Then the second man supplicated:
"O Lord, I had a cousin that I loved more passionately than any man could love a woman. I tried to seduce her but she would refuse, till in a season of great hardship due to famine, she approached me (for help) and I gave her one hundred and twenty Dinars on the condition that she would have sexual intercourse with me. She agreed, and when we got together and I was just going to have intercourse with her, she pleaded, 'Fear Allah, and do not break the seal unlawfully', whereupon I moved away from her, despite the fact that I desired her most passionately; and I let her keep the money I had given her. O Lord, if I did this thing seeking only your pleasure, then do move the distress in which we find ourselves."
Again the rock moved a little but not enough to let them pass out.

Then the third supplicated:
"O Lord, I hired some labourers and paid them their dues, but one of them left leaving behind what was due to him. I invested it in business and the business prospered greatly.

After a while, the labourer came back and said: 'O servant of Allah, hand over to me my wages.' I said to him: 'All that you see is yours; camels, cattle, goats and slaves." He said: 'Don't play joke with me, O servant of Allah.' I assured him: 'I am not joking.' So he took all of it sparing nothing. O Lord, if I did this seeking only for your pleasure, do relieve us of our distress."

The rock then moved away, and all the three came out of the cave safe and sound.

A man was sitting beside his friend, dividing his salary, and he said:

300 for school.
200 for groceries.
200 for Mom.
200 for Dad.

His friend paused and said,
Wait a minute. Didn’t you tell me your parents passed away years ago?

The man smiled and replied:

They passed away on earth, but in my heart they have never ceased to be alive. And now they are in greater need of me than ever. So should I not give charity on their behalf?

They may have left this world, but their right over us never ended.
