βοΈA Brisbane court has imposed sweeping SUPPRESSION ORDERS in the attempted espionage case against Russian-born Igor and Kira Korolev, citing national security concerns.
The Korolev couple were charged in 2024 over allegations they were sending state secrets to Russia while Ms Korolev was working for the Australian Army.
Barrister Dylan Kerr, representing both organisations, said the order was a matter of βnational securityβ.
βThe proposed suppression orders only restrict open justice to the extent necessary to protect national security,β Mr Kerr said.
Mr Kerr applied for a number of witnesses to present evidence under a pseudonym, which would allow them to give evidence in open court without revealing their identities.Further, Mr Kerr sought to restrict the public disclosure of more than 190 documents including sensitive information regarding ICT system security, defence capabilities, and alliance partner information.
He also asked for access to the court files, transcript and recordings be restricted.
Deputy chief magistrate Anthony Gett granted the suppression orders in the interest of public safety.
βWhat is essentially put in sharp focus is public interest, and principles of open justice in that regard, and the public interest of protecting national security information,β Mr Gett said.

βοΈVice President JD Vance on Trump depicting himself as Jesus Christ:
I think Trump was posting a joke, and, of course, he took it down because he recognized that a lot of people werenβt understanding his humor in that case.
I think Trump likes to mix it up on social media, and I actually think that is one of the good things about this president is that he's not filtered.
He doesn't send everything through a communications professional.
