An official announcement issued by the Australian and New Zealand Diocese (ROCOR) confirms that an investigative committee of three priests from Sydney will arrive in Adelaide on Monday, 16 February, to hear concerns from clergy and parishioners of St Nicholas Parish.

The announcement follows growing discussion within the Russian-speaking Orthodox community, including claims on social media that several longstanding parish members were excluded from the parish.

According to parishioners familiar with the situation since the arrival of Father Alexei, previously serving in Dandenong, some members of the congregation have reportedly struggled with changes in pastoral style.

A significant source of dissatisfaction among some parishioners is reportedly linked to conflicts with the new choir conductor. As a result, a number of congregants are said to have stopped attending services at St Nicholas, instead worshipping at Serbian & Greek churches.

An increase in funeral service fees, reportedly from approximately $400 to $1,000.

Once numbering more than 20 members, the choir is now reportedly reduced to only a few participants.

Sources also reference harassing phone communications allegedly made to certain parishioners via a public payphone.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that, a former Adelaide Councillor Nik Kerry (Korovin) is involved.

In 2015, Councillor Nik Kerry released a public statement apologising for public drunken behaviour at a Marion council meeting.

"I was on prescription medication and made an error of judgment by drinking alcohol prior to the meeting," Nik Kerry (Korovin) told channel nine.

Estimates suggest that up to 40 people may have left - or been asked to leave - the parish in recent years.

At the same time, there are parishioners who describe Father Alexei as open, approachable and well-intentioned.

⚡️Simeon Boikov, an ataman and a descendant of Zabaikal Cossacks living in Australia, marked his 36th birthday on February 15, 2026.

According to a statement published on his Telegram channel, Boikov has by this date spent 1,160 days inside the Russian Consulate, where he has been seeking refuge from Australian law enforcement authorities.

When Boikov first entered the Russian consulate in 2022, he was 32 years old. Since then, he has remained there, effectively cut off from the outside world.

Boikov was elected ataman of the Cossacks in Sydney in 2013. Following the start of Russia’s special military operation, he repeatedly organized public actions in support of Russia, which, led to pressure and persecution by local authorities.

In 2022, Boikov sought refuge at the Russian consulate after an altercation at a protest, during which he pushed an Australian pro-Ukrainian man. The Cossack ataman described the incident as an act of self-defense. In 2023, Simeon Boikov was granted Russian citizenship by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
